Hello, guys. Since I really have nothing to do and to keep myself busy, I've done something for you guys. It's one my favorite songs in Filipino and to be honest, it's not a song per se, but a monologue over a melody. It's called "Alaala ni Batman" or Memories of Batman by Radioactive Sago Project. I've translated the lyrics and I hope you guys like my translation. I will post translations of Filipino songs here from time to time. Here it goes, "Alaala ni Batman"

Verse 1

Ano ba yun… (What’s that?)

Bale, 1986 nung una kong nakilala si Batman. Wala pang ABS-CBN nun.
(So, it was 1986 when I first knew Batman. There was no ABS-CBN back then.)

(It was on BBC2 back then, during the time of Marcos who will soon die.)

(Kris Aquino isn’t known either, Boy Abunda isn’t known yet. German Moreno was famous back then.)

Sabi ko, "Shit! Ang galing nito ah."
(I said “Shit! This is fantastic, huh.”)

"Shit! Ang galing nito." sabi ko sa sarili
ko.
(I got mesmerized when I first watched Batman. “Shit! This is fantastic.” I said to myself.)

(Batman’s face really really really really looks fantastic.)

Parang kinatam ang mukha.
([His] face was like chiseled.)

Ang galing ng costume. (His costume was incredible.)

(You could make the chest out without including the nipples.)

At, ang galing ng gadgets niya, (And, his gadgets are good,)

ang gara ng kotse, (His car is grand,)

ang ganda ng bahay, (His house is grand,)

ang galing-galing mag-Ingles, (He’s really good at English,)

ang galing mangarate. (And really good at Karate.)

Actually, pulbos nga lahat ng kalaban niya eh. (Actually, all his enemies are crushed like dust.)

Palagi ko siyang pinapanood nang tuwing hapon. (I always watched him during afternoon.)

Palagi akong nakikipag-away sa katulong namin dahil gusto niyang manood ng Lotlot and Friends at saka That's Entertainment. (And I always argue with our house helper because she wants to watch Lotlot and Friends and That’s Entertainment.)

But me, I only want to watch one thing -)

(He who is really really really really my Idol. (Idoool!))

Verse 2

(So, Batman is really really really really really really my idol.)

Dibale na si Robin. Ayoko si Robin kasi parang bading.
(Never mind Robin. I don’t like Robin because he seems to be gay.)

Ano kaya ang relasyon nila ni Batman?
(I wonder, what’s his relation with Batman?)

Pero, idol ko talaga si Batman nun.
(But, Batman is really my idol back then.)

Palagi ko siyang dinodrawing.
(I always draw him.)

Palagi ko siyang ginagaya.
(I always imitate him.)

(I want and have everything that’s Batman.)

Yung t-shirt ko Batman.
(My t-shirt, Batman.)

Yung lunch box ko, Batman.
(My lunch box, Batman.)

Yung pencil case ko,
(My pencil case,)

yung panyo,
(My handkerchief,)

sumbrero,
(Cap,)

yung toothbrush,
(My toothbrush,)

yung brief ko, lahat yun Batman.
(My brief, all of it was Batman.)

(My father really loves me because even if we were just poor, he will always buy Batman stuff for me.)

(But once, I really wanted a Batmobile toy.)

(I asked him to buy me one, I said “Dad, please buy me a Batmobile.”)

(But, he just got fired from his job and he said he had no money.)

Kasi kasali yata sa unyon, nagwala sa picket line, kaya yun, natanggal.
(Because he was, I think, a member in the union, and he went amuck on the picket line, so there, he got fired.)

(So he just made something from sardine cans, made holes in them and put bottle caps on it and there I knew what loving really means.)

Verse 3

(And years have passed and Batman completely disappeared from my memories.)

(But on one corner of my consciousness, I know Batman is still there. -)

(A silent shadow cloaked in darkness and mystery inside my brain and room.)

(And since then, the winds have changed their direction.)

nagulo na ang ikot ng mundo,
(The world’s rotation have been messed up,)

kumupas na ang kulay ng buhay,
(The color of life has faded away,)

dumaan ang mga kasintahan,
(Lovers have passed by,)

ang mga asawa,
(Spouses,)

(People who you thought to be friends but are actually jerks,)

(Actors you see on TV every day that are stupid,)

mga pulitikong bobo,
(Stupid politicians,)

mga trabahong maliit lang ang suweldo,
(Jobs with little pay,)

isang milyong limpak na mga problema,
(A million problems,)

(And a list of grudges against this cruel world.)

Hindi ko na matagalan.
(I can’t stand it anymore.)

Hindi ko na matiis.
(I can’t bear it anymore.)

Hindi ko na kaya.
(I can’t take it anymore.)

Verse 4

Ngayon, hindi ko na talaga kaya! Hindi ko na talaga kaya! Hindi ko na kaya!
(Now, I really can’t take it anymore! I really can’t take it anymore! I can’t take it anymore!)

(I heard an explosion in the core of my mind.)

Bumigay na ang tali!
(The rope had snapped!)

Sumabog na ang bulkan!
(The volcano had exploded!)

Nabasag na ang pula!
(The yolk had been broken!)

(And now, on one really dark night, I am here in the rooftop of a really tall building on Ayala!)

(The wind blowing against my cape feels good.)

Nakataas ang aking mga kamay! Nakataas na ang aking mga kamay!
(My hands are raised! My hands are already raised!)

Malapit na akong lumipad! Malapit na akong lumipad! Malapit na akong lumipad!
(I will soon fly! I will soon fly! I will soon fly!)

Lipad, Batman, lipad! Lumipad ka! Lumipad ka!
(Fly, Batman, fly! Fly! Fly!)

Lumipad ka papuntang langit!
(Fly to the heavens!)

Lumipad ka! Lumipad ka!
(Fly! Fly!)

(My hands are raised, my hands are already raised!)

Verse 5

(Eh but, I just realized, Batman doesn’t fly, right?)

Hindi naman pala lumilipad si Batman. Hindi naman pala lumilipad si Batman.
(Batman doesn’t fly. Batman doesn’t fly.)

Kaya paalam, malupit na mundo.
(So goodbye, cruel world.)

Paalam, mahal.
(Goodbye, love.)

Paalam po, inay, itay, kuya, ate, lolo, lola, paalam po.
(Goodbye, mom, dad, older bro, older sis, grandpa, grandma, goodbye.)

Lolo sa tuhod, paalam po.
(Great grandpa, goodbye.)

Lola sa siko, paalam po.
(Great-great grandma, goodbye.)

Bantay, paalam. Muning, paalam. Ewan ko kung sinong magpapakain sa inyo.
(Doggie, goodbye. Kitty, goodbye. I don’t know who’s gonna feed you.)

(Goodbye, Mrs. Tekla, Goodbye, Mr. Gorio. I’ll just gonna pay that vinegar I got from you.)

Paalam, Jun-jun. Paalam, Bong-bong, Ba-bye Rose, Hoy! Ba-bye, Ba-bye, Baby. Ba-bye, Pablo…
(Goodbye, Jun-jun. Goodbye, Bong-bong, Buh-bye, Rose, Hey! Buh-bye, buh-bye, Baby. Buh-bye, Pablo…)
