Filia was once just an average schoolgirl, but one day woke up without any memories and a second mouth on the back of her head. She was now playing host to a Parasite named Samson, an unruly mop of demonic hair with incredible power.

With no memories or anyone to turn to for help, if she ever hopes to piece together her past and survive the inevitable clash with the Skullgirl, Filia will need to trust this mysterious being



The biggest sensation in the Cirque des Cartes, Cerebella is a tumbling, soaring dynamo of star power: throughout the Canopy Kingdom, she’s admired for her enormous strength and alluring curves. Sadly, this acrobatic orphan only desires the attention of one man, mobster Vitale Medici, who took her in and became the closest thing to a father she’s ever known.

While inherently good, Cerebella serves the mafia as a leg-breaker when not performing in the circus. Cerebella is the only person capable of controlling her powerful Living Weapon hat, Vice-Versa, so Vitale is stingy with his affections to keep her fighting in his corner.



Once a war orphan slave named Patricia, Peacock’s body was gruesomely mutilated by slave traders that captured her. She was rescued by Dr. Avian’s Anti-Skullgirls Labs, and rebuilt with a reality-defying arsenal of biomechanical weaponry: the Argus System augmented her body, and the Avery Unit gave her access to unprecedented weaponry.

Alas, they couldn’t do anything for her mind: Peacock’s damaged psyche and abiding love of cartoons shaped her new “toys” into a terrifying gang of cronies, who she has no qualms using to paint the town red… with blood. Terrifying as she is, she may be the kingdom’s best bet against the Skullgirl.



Few know the terrors of the Skullgirl as intimately as Parasoul does: seven years ago her own mother became the Skullgirl that nearly destroyed the world. This tragic past has made her fiercely protective of both her country and her family, and these two priorities frequently come into conflict.

Parasoul is now the crown princess of the Canopy Kingdom and leader of its elite military squad, the Black Egrets. Wielding the living umbrella, Krieg, she fights with grace, poise and cunning to defend her family honor and destroy the Skull Heart so no one can repeat her mother’s terrible mistake.



A feline feral, Nadia Fortune is the last surviving member of the Fishbone Gang, a notorious band of otherwise Dagonian thieves. Their last mission ended in tragedy: a failed attempt to steal the mysterious Life Gem from Lorenzo Medici resulted in their grisly deaths. Before meeting her own doom, Ms. Fortune swallowed the Life Gem and managed to digest it. The Gem’s power permeated her entire body, making it truly undying… even after being cut into several pieces.

Now hiding in the shadows of Little Innsmouth, Ms. Fortune plots to avenge her fallen comrades.

It's also used in BB by Taokaka.

I really like the artstyle of this game, the assist mechanics seem to be interesting, and from what I heard it's going to be very noob-friendly.

While there is a “true,” canonical story kicking around in creative director Alex Ahad’s head, the Story mode shows a number of “what if” scenarios playing out across alternate timelines. The characters are true to themselves in these altered circumstances, but events are unfolding differently.

No ambiguity here I guess.

It was worth the wait. ^^;

A little bump in hopes of promoting the nicest fighting game surprise I've had in ages. It's remarkably well-done when you consider how indie it was, and I'm looking forward to the refining patches they've promised in short order. But $15 was exceptionally reasonable for a very well-crafted game with neat characters and music by the Castlevania composer.

...My only wish is that it didn't release so close to finals so I had more study breaks to try it.

Ah, that is disappointing, I'm sorry you can't try it yet. :(

I was hoping other people here got to try it too because I seriously couldn't throw enough money at these people to let them expand the game more. ^^; They promised two early DLC characters to expand the roster and they have a bunch more awesome ideas as long as the game does well enough. It's even showing up on Pixiv and it's sort of weird to see Japan hyping for an American fighting game.

So I like it how air combos use air dashes. Its neat but also kind of hard. Whatever, I'm totally pro with Double. (Teacup cross up FTW)

Also, Melty Blood skillz can easily translate easily to Skullgirls. Not many command motions, attack launchers, jab pressures(not as much), Instant air dash, Not all the characters have standing overheads.

That's true. The biggest difference is that it has a real grappler, but even then, Cerebella is fast and full of combos so she still reminds me more of Yumizuka than the usual sort. ^^; I'm biased in her favor because she's voiced by Cristina Vee, though Filia's my absolute favorite so far.

...I can't decide if Double is funny or scary, I'll be honest. Teacup and growling fridge makes me giggle, but that artwork...

For those not keeping track, after a lot of legal troubles for their publisher tied up getting money, the makers of Skullgirls had to fund a whole new studio to keep working on the series. They got permission to crowdfund three more characters for the game.


As it is now, it stands a very good chance of meeting its entire first DLC character goal in a single day - $30 gets you an early beta pass to the upcoming PC Steam version and redeems into ownership of the PC version once it is finished. I am super hyped for the first one. ^^; I really want this to be a success because the devs have put more effort into overcoming bad luck than any indie I've ever seen.

Ride on, Skullgirls. :rider:

It's probably the best crowdfund alone just to see all the crazy future characters they want to implement. Too bad I haven't even bought the first game (don't even have a system to run it).

First crowdfund goal met in twenty-four hours!

Squigly will be free for everyone once she's done in about two months. The crowdfund continues for the rest of the month to try and fund the second and third characters, but I'm already so proud of the fandom for making the first goal so fast. :)

Squigly and Big Band successfully funded! Yay! Both will be free on completion, with Squigly expected to drop in the early summer. The staff is even livestreaming drawing her frames in special events at http://www.twitch.tv/labzero.

Last stretch goal is a third DLC character to be decided by fan vote, with new candidates being revealed every $20k. In $5,000, they unveil Eliza, an Egyptian-themed villain based on Elizabeth Bathory with blood moves. If anyone's looking to play the PC version, the $30 tier is basically buying the PC game - you get a beta pass that also turns into the Steam game once released.

I haven't been following much with Skullgirls, but I do know about the single, tag, and three character team options.

What do most players use in matches? I figured it would be like in Capcom vs SNK 2 where it was a option but most people preferred to have a have three character team.

From what I've seen, most people use at least two characters - I've seen some people/players recommend that number as well. Except for Cerebella (? Arm lady), where at the tourney I went she was more commonly by herself.

Oh good, I kind of prefer tag teams rather than trying to get good with three different characters. And I'm trying to wrap my head around how a grappler is so viable in this game.

Is there any news on the new DLC characters? I heard a few were being added for free in the new patch. I know of Beowulf who uses a bear arm which is just amazing.

Big Band is the next one and you get them for free if you own the game at release of the DLC character, up to three months after the release. After the three months pass you have to pay 5 bux per character.

I do have Skullgirls for the xbox, and I'm waiting for the console patch to drop before picking it up again.

My computer sucks - it has problems playing most games made within 3 years, so I chose not to get it on Steam :P

For those that did not know, a week ago Konami made a claim:

During tonight’s Salty Cupcakes broadcast, lead programmer Mike “Mike Z” Zaimont relayed another interesting chapter in the saga that is Skullgirls’ future on consoles. While the folks at Lab Zero Games recently revealed (http://shoryuken.com/2013/11/07/autumn-games-cuts-ties-with-konami-in-effort-to-speed-up-release-of-skullgirls-patches-on-playstation-3-and-xbox-360/) that Autumn Games, publisher and current owner of the franchise, have severed all ties with Konami, they have apparently been mixed up in another unfortunate situation. Konami recently requested that Skullgirls be removed from both PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, effective December 17 and 31 respectively.

Though bad enough on its own, this removal request was not brought to the developers’ attention until after it was approved by Sony, leaving Lab Zero with very little time to do something about it. Their plan? Put together a new build for consoles that adds up-to-date changes and additions like Squiqly as well as removes Konami’s communications ID numbers before Sony goes on winter break.

Further requests to extend the PlayStation Network deadline to December 31 by both Lab Zero and Sony have been met peculiar excuses from Konami, and a combined appeal has yet to receive a response.

It is also unclear whether or not Marvelous AQL (Skullgirls’ PC publisher) will be able to submit a new build of the title to Microsoft before December 31, as that is when ownership of the listing on Xbox Live Arcade will transfer from Konami.

So, where does this leave Skullgirls? Worst case scenario, it disappears from PlayStation Network in North America, Europe, and other areas outside of Japan (the Japanese release was published by CyberFront and thus is not affected) in addition to Xbox Live Arcade globally, only to return sometime after the new year. The small silver lining in this case is that, if the build submitted for certification to Sony Computer Entertainment of America passes on its first go, the PlayStation Network version in that region will have parity with its Steam counterpart.

Owners of the title on consoles will not have the game removed from their systems if it is indeed pulled, but Sony was unable to specify if online play will still be available.
