Why does she dress like a pirate.

It's like asking why a police officer dresses like a police officer.

Obviously its to show her line of work.

Nerroth

SHe only dresses like a privateerpirate at work.

Well, at her other work.

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SHIT FOR FRAGGIN EVER
although why they felt the need to change the name/chara designs i do not know
I was hoping to see it more like Matsumoto's ;~;
although new ones are growing on me, specially dat hair~

cept Ririka =3=
she's supposed to be WAYY more feminine =3=

RoadBuster
January 11th, 2012, 05:40 AM
I've not really heard anything about it. The Harlock references were thick, so is it actually supposed to be part of Matsumoto's 'universe'?

lilithsama
January 11th, 2012, 05:48 AM
Matsumoto Noriyuki was the novel illustrator, although I can't help but feel this is at least in some part "inspired" by Leiji-verse
but then again its a "space-opera," so the two pretty much go hand in hand nows

Ah, thanks for the info.

I'll stick with it for now and see where it goes.

Second episode get!!

For some reason, don't ask me, the second episode just clicked more with me than the first one did. Dunno why, but I ain't complaining.

Second episode get!!

For some reason, don't ask me, the second episode just clicked more with me than the first one did. Dunno why, but I ain't complaining.
Four things made me sit up and pay attention in the second episode much more than the first one did.

First was Chiaki's sweet tooth. Completely unexpected coming from her character type, shows there's more to her than just being a foil to Miaki of the "I will criticize everything you do because you aren't stoic and level-headed and super-competent like me" type. Also notable because I nearly split my sides open when I noticed she was still eating her parfait after last episode's apparently-not-as-frantic-as-it-looked escape.

Second was Ririka's speech about the power of a pirate. Especially the bit about pirates carrying guns to impress more than to fight with. That they mention it so early on makes me think there will be a good deal more to the fight scenes than just having the biggest guns.

Third was the depiction of movement in space. The way the camera moves around while the girls are floating about in zero-g does a lot to emphasize how there's no real concept of up or down without gravity. A minor but very nice touch.

Fourth was the electronic warfare scene at the end, proof that the writers have given thought to the capabilities of the technology that's available in this time period. Now I'm practically chomping at the bit to see how that scene goes in episode 3 and what else they can come up with.

And to think people say there's nothing new in anime. "Harlock with chicks" is plenty new. ^_^

Pretty much this, actually.

So I was curious about the Odette II's former identity since it seems that the Original Seven don't seem to be named after the Seven Lucky Gods. Turns out it's something as simple as Hakuchou means 'swan'. Could probably be written as 'White Swan' as well.

It can't be just me right? I'm not the only one who thinks several characters look like they were pulled straight out of Gurren Lagann, right?

Given it's pace as of episode 3, I expect this show to run at least a couple of cours. As is usual with the genre.

The Sentai announcement (http://www.sentai-filmworks.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=159:sentaifilmworkslicensesmouretsupirates&catid=71:press-releases&Itemid=64) pegs it at 26 episodes.

There were some slick cyber-warfare tricks pulled in this one. I was certainly on the edge of my seat for this episode.

And Lilly gets to finally talk, but I'm the only one who cares about that.

Next episode, Marika finally gets to become captain.

Freshly cribbed from a post over on AS (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=3990321#post3990321): a most logical crossover.

(As it happens, the Japanese dubs for that franchise refer to Hikaru Sulu as Hikaru Kato...)

Ok, episode 7.

So people pay them to recieve...the pirating experience?

"Hey, you guys are pirates right? I want you to come and raid my ship and take the belongings of all of my passengers. It will be awesome. Good money for you too."

nununu

It's prolly just some sort of beginner course and rich people spending their wealth. Odd jobs like that are prolly meant provide training and money. They're technically privateers so I don't think they're going to board allied ships. Or send greenhorns to very hostile territories, ie outside Empire space. We've already seen that actual pirating does happen with Lightning 11. I hope.

Seems like the deal is that the passengers' belongings are insured by the company so they don't actually lose anything. Then they go home and tell all their rich friends what an awesome adventure they had and the shipping company gets a sales boost.

So we have a total cast shift now.

Well, not exactly. Technically the crew is being temporarily replaced with the students from the yacht club, which now gives their characters more screentime. Looking forward to seeing what direction they'll take this in.

Guess what?

Some lesbians finally came out of the closet.

Well, it was just a matter of time, considering the predominantly female case of students.

Somehow, I don't think they were too far into the closet.
