I'm probably going to max out my sick leave because of this game.

I'll be playing on the US servers, probably the East coast ones. I'm undecided between a monk, which appeals to my "holy warrior" impulses, or a barbarian, which appeals to my "heavy armour" impulses.

Whatever the case, I'm getting this for sure. The CE. I almost always buy CEs for the artbooks.

I3uster
January 26th, 2012, 09:11 AM
Oh yeah, I'll be getting the CE too, at launch.
And I'll probably start out with a Demon Hunter, will make him male and call him "KiriNanaya" or something.

Fafnir

Oh shit, Azurewrath.

They even took over the BK set. And Stormshield is also back, which means it was in all 3 Diablo games. Yay!

I'm going to buy it. If I can I will purchase the North American version, to play with some of my American friends from Warcraft 3. So if all goes well I'll have the North American one and we could play Fish.

If I can't buy the North American version through the digital store I'll probably play it on Europe, all alone, and lose interest in it after beating the campaign. Still hoping that I can go to the American servers with my Starcraft 2 account, but that probably won't be happening anytime soon either.

deviatesfish
January 26th, 2012, 04:13 PM
I will try to buy it in Collectors Edition, so I won't be set for a while. But once I'm good to go, I'll try to play with ya on NA server. I hope they don't split it by West and East side... That would suck.

Sure sounds good, I just hope I can actually buy the digital copy, if not that would suck. As I'm not going to pay 20 bucks just to travel to the customs office (?). And then another 10 or so in customs duty. I don't think they did split the North American servers with Starcraft 2, so I don't think they will now, but I can ask a friend whenever I see him.

Well, I'll be using the real money auction house to pay for my future blizzard games, so I'm not touching hardcore either.

I3uster
January 26th, 2012, 06:58 PM
Are you going to buy a rare item empty and then artificially inflate prices like a boss, or just casually sell stuff?

Still, I will play hardcore. There is no feeling like Alt-F4-ing in the last second to escape certain death, and then starting it up again to see if you made it.

deviatesfish

I'll be using a lot of market tricks, but that's only after there's a high enough volumn built up and the market is stable...

...Remember that Blizzard records everything in their servers now, so you might just come back to a scene of you getting killed as you load.

That's very interesting I didn't even know they implemented something like that. I think it's a good idea and I'm curious to see how it'll play out.

I'll be using a lot of market tricks, but that's only after there's a high enough volumn built up and the market is stable...

I haven't paid too much attention to it back in World of Warcraft, this might be the time to actually do so.

Heh, had to throw the jab at Leo's silliness. Seriously though, I'll probably be on the western US servers, although my IRL friend and I could be swayed to play on the East if there's a bigger crowd. We tend to love playing with people we know rather than jerks who'll yell FUCKING NOOOOOOB when something stupid happens.

Froggie
January 26th, 2012, 07:41 PM
I played a tank in WoW for the longest time.

I shouted FUCKING NOOOOOOBS my fair share of times.

...Oh man, that's making me want to play Barbarian SO much.

O'BRIEN THE BARBARIAN!!

Kratosirving

I tanked as well Froggie, we're comrades in arms!

Hence, why I wanted to roll DEEPS.

Froggie
January 26th, 2012, 07:46 PM
I was DEEPS in Wrath because my guild had too many tanks.

I was never too good at it though. It was pretty funny when I still got Shadowmourne first over our other DKs that were better DEEPS than me because I had the best attendance of the lot.

But I always liked tanking best.

So, I'm beginning to really lean towards a tank fashioned Barbarian.

Kratosirving
January 26th, 2012, 07:50 PM
Unbudging Tankadin since BC. I refused to do another spec, rofl. Guildies wanted me, they wanted me to tank. (And Tank I did, goddamnit.)

Even mob placement and stuff like that?
Hardcore will become even more hardcore. I like it.

Also, if life leech returns, a tank baab is the same as a dps baab anyway.

You assholes got to have all the fun. Every fucking raid. From Vanilla to Cata when I eventually quit. "Spinach, you have to heal." "Why the fuck do I have to heal AGAIN?" "Because so and so sucks dick, other guy is in the other room playing FIFA and smoking weed, and the others are just plain retarded." "But I'm the god damn guild leader, this should be my decision!" "Too bad."

As for D3... I don't know what I'll play, or on what server. I have friends that I play games with all over the planet, and I don't want to have to choose ; _ ;

Froggie
January 26th, 2012, 08:05 PM
I healed in BC. I liked it but I didn't much like Pallies so I ditched for a DK.

I loved DK tanking but I was mostly forced to DEEPS. I wasn't very good at it though.

I did like the whole "heavy armour, two-hander weapon, bashing your face in" feel of the class though.

Gotta love heavy armour.

Oh god, I remember the good old days with 12-hour Alterac Valley matches. Summoning the Gods for both sides, actually rescueing the Wing Commanders, wrnagling the Wolves/Rams, killing all the Lieutenants...Good times. Not this gay "Stomp Bal/Galv, take 2 towers, Fuck Van/Drek" shit.

I know that feeling, for me it's easier since most of the people that I know that buy Diablo are Americans.

Concerning the healing my first character was a healing druid I leveled it up through all of vanilla, god that was such a pain I started to just play instances to level at level 40. Later I would level up 6 rogues, since some people had to keep changing sides on the same server. Still 6 got to level 60 and one of those to 80.

WSG drop flag pick it up before it's visible. Add in stealth and vanish for more mind games. Loved it. Oh also awesome outrunning epic mounts in travel form, while carrying the flag.

I healed, tanked and deeps... Sometimes at the same time. Healed on my shammie, pally, and priest. Tanked on my pally only. Deepsed on my hunter, warlock, pally and priest. I don't want to go back to that again, and thankfully there's only one class inDiablo: DEEPS.

Thoguh probably DH is the one with similar stealth mechanics? Sadly, I've not looked beyond Barbarians and Monks.

Remember how you could pick up like... chipped and stuff? Now think of how long it'll take for you to make the best gem? Now imagine only the first 5 stages of all gems drop. The other 9 stages have to formed on your own. No perfect gems drop... ever!!!

That pretty dumb and annoying. Although on that one wiki they said that that system may or may not be in the game. Let's hope it's not.

Diablo in two words:
Fun grinding.

It is a really cool and atmospheric game that's very, very fun if you play it with others, and a Diablo 2 run is one of the best Lan-party experiences you can get.
Diablo 2 costs 10 US dollars right now, so if you want to try out a classic, go for it.

deviatesfish
January 27th, 2012, 12:12 PM
The thing about the online thing is that I think it's about their ability to record your saves for you... Which would also prevent some of the worst hacking attempts. I remember Diablo II having a big hacking problem where people had uber items and duplicated items. This would also allow you to keep your things if your HD crashes and allow you to use your single player character to play with other people... Which is, as state, the core experience.

Fafnir
January 27th, 2012, 12:23 PM
If you want to try out a classic, you should Diablo 1.

deviatesfish

D2 from 1.01 to 1.09 was constantly plagued with hackers, I believe. I mean, hell... I was one of those hackers. XD

I3uster
January 27th, 2012, 12:48 PM
D2 is still plagued with hackers even now. Pretty much every high rune you can trade on the channels is a dupe.
I only trade with people from the biggest German D2 community exactly for that reason. The people there are pretty cool, and you can always get help there too.

Also they have a bot hunting contest. Sadly that doesn't work that often anymore since most people altered the chicken function of their bots to instantly leave not only when their life drop to a low point but also when they get marked as hostile.

I think the thing with the Demon Hunter's Hatred and Discipline is neat, and distinct enough from the Barbarian's Fury in both a mechanical and conceptual way.

The difference between the Witch Doctor's mana and the Sorceror's arcane energy, in terms of the regeneration speed, is interesting.

I'm a bit sad that there's no Paladin option, especially now that the special abilities have been greatly reduced to avoid redundancy.

Well, the Barbarian reminds me enough about the parts of the WoW Warrior that I liked, so he ought to be fun. Maybe the Monk might also be interesting, since I can't immediately see how Spirit Energy is different from Fury.

Forcing you to choose only a limited number of abilities is interesting and potentially awesome, especially with the ability to customize them with interchangeable items.

But restricting certain abilities by level? What's the point of that?

Doesn't that garauntee that the later abilities are going to be so good that you obviously have to choose them, and some of the earlier abilities are going to be so weak in comparison that you never touch them again?

What you need to do is buy the game about 2 months later after the Chinese farmers have entered the economy and cash market.

Then you fork out about 30 bucks and deck yourself out (completely legal and fair now).

And hopefully the pvp arena will be installed at that point, and you can go make little children without credit cards cry.

With the stats being auto-allocated, and skills being so few, the determining factor has become gears and skill runes. And of course, the luckiest or the ones willing to dish out the cash will dominate most of the time.

Do I look like some pussy-ass softcore player to ya, punk?
Also, haven't tried the Wizard yet but right now the official Diablo 3 fun ranking:
1) Demon Hunter (plays tactical and fun)
2) Witch Doctor (plays...crazy, really imo nothing like any Diablo 1 or 2 class. Maybe like a Necromancer Summoner/Boner and summoner Druid hybrid?)
3) Monk (will probably be my favorite CC class. I like the ressource system more than fury and the skills are fun, especially the 3rd strike system)
4) Barbarian (he's become more tanky. The only thing I look forward to is the skill where you summon the motherfucking Diablo 2 Ancients. Yes, the Ancients)

There's a lot more of that in Diablo 3 than in 2 and 1 imo.
I used 4 different skills in combat, compared to 1 in Diablo 2.

Sadly the skill system is downgraded. Now even the skillrunes, an interesting new system, were reduced to switch-out passive skills...

Diablo III is a global game. Players can choose to play on game servers based in the Americas, Europe, or Asia, regardless of what region they are connecting from. Certain restrictions apply. Further details will be posted on the Diablo III Community Site (http://www.diablo3.com/) prior to release.

Note: your game-client version does not hinder your ability to select which regional game servers – the Americas, Europe, or Asia – that you play on.

Frost ray is meh.

I dunno, I don't like how Wizard spell damage is determined by the attack damage of the weapon you are holding. I like that things like life leech and poison damage now work on spells when they are on the weapon, but I can only see this resulting in Wizards carrying superheavy swords in the lategame to increase their DPS.

Counterguardian
April 10th, 2012, 08:03 PM
Yeah but upgrading frost ray with your first rune to turn it into the channeled ice dome is sexy as all hell.

Nonetheless, I think scaling off weapon damage kind of makes sense. Back in Diablo II you had to skilldump into individual spells you wanted, which made stuff awkward when you ended up in situations that demanded other spells or elements. And being even with all your skills ended up with a sorceress that did nothing.

And being even with all your skills ended up with a sorceress that did nothing.

That was a balancing element though. A caster class never had to worry about hitchance and could focus on damage alone, but had to face immunities as exchange. Caster classes were pretty equipment-independent (relatively. The lowest thing you need for a Baab or Frenzypala to work in Hell is Oath, and that's not as cheap as a whole Hell-viable Sorc equipment), but zone-dependent and had to avoid their immunities, it was a gameplay element I really liked.

But I guess weapon damage makes sense with the new skill and attribute system giving you no control over other factors.

Bustah, what about Monks and Barbs? :o
Monks are the most fun CQC class, though they give me heavy supporter vibes. Sadly their most powerful support skills (called Mantras) are not accesible right now.

Think of a more CQC-focused paladin. The combo system is easier than they showed us before, right now you have expensive atttacks and special moves which cost Spirit Power, and moves that recharge spirit power. The recharging moves are identical on the first two hits but offer a special effect on the third hit. For example, a lightning punch does lightning damage on the first and second punch, and on the third it does lightning AoE damage (or triggers a Chain Lightning with the right rune).

Barbs are barbs. The fury system works like it does in WoW, you have attacks that recharge fury and you have attacks that drain fury. Also you gain fury by recieving damage. They are pretty tanky and have access to some support skills. One of them (currently not useable in the beta) summons the three ancients from Diablo 2 to fight by your side.
I jizzed when I first saw that.

And honestly? 2D isn't "bad graphics," really. It's like saying a painting has "worse graphics" than a 3D model or something. In a sense, Baldur's Gate II has quite beautiful backgrounds and environments; certainly more so than graphically similar titles like Fallout 2.

Not playing a game because it has "bad graphics" is snobbish and a textbook example of judging a book by its cover. Rather pitiful, to be honest, and something that makes me rather depressed at the state of the world. The idea fits in very well with modern philosophy, however. Quite sad.

I'm 20 and I haven't played it either because, you know, it was released over 12 years ago.

Maybe you're just into older games. That's cool too, but everyone has something specific they look for in gaming and entertainment - some want stories, some want to see the crisp beautiful rendering that's a feature of the razor edge of modern computing, and some just want hilariously bad graphics to watch while killing stuff - so you shouldn't start with the judgement so quickly (kind of like how some people still like watching black and white TV shows).

Now back onto topic. Am I the only one here thinking of abusing the heck out of Slow Time so I can start playing Touhou in the middle of Diablo III?

I'm not being condescending; I am pointing out exactly what is wrong with your statements and why. Where you went wrong is the "terrible graphics" remark: this came off as a statement of fact that you did not dispute, and therefore you were excluding many, many games for... honestly, a rather banal reason which is not open-minded at all. The only thing I did was state why and how you were wrong in making that statement.

Also, more seriously: NO U

Calm down, accept people want different things out of games, and play Touhou the Wizard for sexy sexy Grey DeLisle.

If you 100% this game, you get to play as Tyrael for one hour and destroy all the demons.

You don't understaaaand, man.

Yes, because instead of saying something like "that Diablo Two that you like a lot has similar graphics" and steering the discussion towards that, you say personal-attack-you-are-wrong-personal-attack-you-are-a-snob-personal-attack-you-are-quite-sad... and yes, with that kind of attitude, you are acting like you are superior and you sound very condescending.

But sure, keep saying I'm ignorant and don't understand. Whatever...

To be fair, I didn't use any ad hominem arguments; I argued against ideas and statements, not you personally. The only exceptions were my relatively sarcastic jokes.

Overall, you're being oddly buttmad about this at this point in time, and I find it kind of funny, in a mean way.

I made a single statement about my personal preference. All your arguments were targeted at me.

Yes, I gathered you would find amusement from being mean to me.

Just emerged from a few hours of Witch Doctor and Wizard play. I really wanted to try the Monk, but all my friends were playing that.

Just a very random thought, but am I the only one who thinks the female Wizard is what Tohsaka Rin would sound like in English?

What's everyone's battletags, maybe we can go for a few minutes of BL gaming. Mine is Darkslayer#6422, in case any of you want to hit me up when you're on.

Tried all except Witch Doctor so far up to level 8.

I liked the Barbarian and the Wizard the most.

Still need to get to the level cap and to try the Witch Doctor. I'm definitely interested in giving the Monk another whirl since when I played last night I was literally falling asleep on my keyboard by the end of it.
