The Initial Plot:

You are an FBI agent that weas part of a small task force looking after one Hugh Witner, a minor crook turning witness. Tonight, he was was supposed to be formally moved from to a more secured safe-house. From there, it was all going to be in the hand of the Witness Protection Agency, and you could go back to working a real case. Night had fallen, and the transfer was going to take place in an hour. A light rain was pitter-pattering outside, making it an unusually miserable night to be outside. So, you wAere naturally suspicious when a figure in a heavy coat walked across the street and stopped in front of the safe house. There was no real reason to be worried yet, but you still make sure your weapon is ready.

There's a flash of gold like a strobe light going off, and then-

A giant black hand rips the front door off it's hinges, and the battle begins.

At the end, the house is barely still standing, Hugh Witner has had his head forcibly removed, and the culprit has gotten away. Across town, the Governor and several others have been killed in a similar way. Each case is slightly different, but all share the same basic method. An 'unconventional' attack of overhwhelming power made without subtlety. In the next few weeks, more and more bizarre events begin to happen. A pair of hikers are raped by a Satir. Mermaids begin singing in the Great Lakes. Dragons have been spotted roosting in the Rockies. Overseas, similar events wreak havoc across the world.

After an immense amount of political huffing and puffing, you are re-assigned to the newly created 'Extra-Normal Investigations Division', which was the 'Paranormal Countermeasure Agency' the day before. The name has been changed twice since you've been assigned there. Since then, you've discovered that while you've been given an office in a new building, there's not much actual money coming in. The 'Agency' has enough resources to pay for the handful of investigators and the office, but the big-wigs have discreetly made it clear that until you actually show that you're capable of handling the new 'problems' cropping up they can't "justify" giving you more money.

In short, you have very little funding, an immense amount of problems to deal with, and the higher-ups breathing down your case about an extremely high profile murder-case.

No pressure.

So, yeah. Who'd be interested in playing an RP based slightly on what would happen if X-Com and X-files had a baby, only it was just about magic and the supernatural?

Hmmm ... sounds like it might be fun, if only because it gives me an excuse to start re-watching the X-Files.

Never seen X-Files/Com. Can I still participate?

Shaderic
May 1st, 2012, 07:46 AM
Of course.

I haven't seen/played them either. I just used them to create a quick comparison.

This is going to be an urban fantasy game, with a focus on investigation and research. You're the first, hastily drawn line of defense against the supernatural. Making something of yourselves through hard work, guts, and luck is one of the points. The heaviest hardware you start off with is an M9.

Magic, weapons, armor, and allies all have to be found/bought/created/traded for/stolen.

Sounds fun. Less ridiculous hax and more street smarts. Count me.

Don't know shit about X-files. Know lots about X-com.

I'm intrigued.

Don't know shit about anything, including RP's. Will thou let a newbie try out his first RP?

Shaderic
May 1st, 2012, 10:21 AM
Sure.

Just keep in mind that it's a big story. And that nobody likes god-moders.

EDIT:

Right, I'm going to eat/sleep.

In the mean time, why don't you guys do profiles? In the afternoon, I'll get to work on starting up the IC thread.

Here's a sample.

Name: Arthur Mayhew

Age: 48

Appearance: A tall man, he is remarkably fit for his age. Which is to say he looks like he can bench press a car. Rather than the traditional suit and tie of a person in his position, he prefers a black vest. This does very little to stop his flat and block shaped face from being intimidating. The only real sign of his age are the silver streaks through his short black hair.

Background: The epitome of calm and cool, Arthur Mayhew has dealt with all of his problems in the same way. With cold logic. As one of the few senior agents to react to the attacks made with 'Non-conventional Weapon' with something other than "What the Hell is that?!" he has been made director of the newly created "Extranormal Affairs Bureau" (Sixth name, as of the fifth week). A very unflappable individual, many wonder if this straight-laced man was really the best pick for an organization that will be operating under many interesting conditions.

"As long as there is evidence, I will believe in it."

For the sake of not cluttering up my inbox convenience, why don't you guys post your profiles here?

Also, where do you all want to start? On the night of the attacks, or afterwards at the first official briefing for the agents of the Bureau of Special Investigations (Final name decided six weeks after creating unit)?a

Which is to say, do you want a hopeless boss fight or a meeting at a tavern office?

Suncofold
May 1st, 2012, 11:05 PM
I kinda like both starting ideas, so I really have no preference. I do like the idea of starting at the tavern slightly more, if only because I know jack about the premise. Gotta do homework first though, so profile in about two-three hours I guess.

Profile:
Victor Benyassine

Age: 29

Appearance: Victor has a tall, lean frame. Sharp blue eyes are accented by rectangular glasses. He prefers to dress in a business suit, though with the sleeves rolled up and his collar loosened. His hair is cut short and spiked, and his chin sports a soul patch.

Background: Victor is a straight-laced guy who takes everything with a grain of salt. He's a skeptic by nature and sticks to what he believes. Normally he's more of a laid-back guy and likes to chillax, but the emerging paranormal crisis has him on edge. Armed with only his skill at infiltration and disguise, Victor is certainly wary of his reassignment to the "Extranormal Affairs Bureau".

"Paranormal? Don't make me laugh."

So is this alive or what?

dewawer
May 5th, 2012, 04:52 AM
Drake Walter

Age: 25

Appearance: Tall, but not very tall, Drake usually wears the formal suit. With short hair, he looks like the average agent.

Background: Drake once thought it would be cool to be a FBI agent and worked hard to make the cut. Once he was shifted into the 'Extra-Normal Investigations Division', he was confused. Did he do something wrong on previous assignments to deserve this?

Not talented at anything yet not bad either, Drake is average at best at anything he does. He does not have firm belief in the paranormal, yet he does not deny it either.

"Hm, the supernatural? Er, I don't think its real but hey, it might be."

Sorry for being late.

Name: Alexia Pendragon

Appearance:
http://i413.photobucket.com/albums/pp218/fateza/saber277.jpg

Age: 24

Background: Born and raised by her single mother travelling all over the country. Alex quickly gained a love for the paranormal as she grew up and took a job at the FBI, and when she learned of the new Extra-Normal Investigations Division, she pulled as many strings as she could to get herself assigned there. She is a cool and collected individual normally, but when flustered quickly loses her cool and starts to make rash decisions. Despite her 'fangirling' over the supernatural, she is capable of putting the mission first most of the time. Unless she sees a dragon. She's always wanted to ride a dragon.

Alexia specializes in escort and protection missions, especially when working with a client or criminal. She is especially proficient in close quarters combat, armed or unarmed. She has also been trained to handle some of the less savoury parts of working as an agent, namely interrogation, and occasionally, off the record, torture.

"...I wanna meet a ghost..."

...it's not an expy, it's totally original!/denial

Well, we've got three profiles. That's enough interest to be worth opening the IC thred.

Unless anybody has an objection, let's open this up on the night of the Black Hand Massacre, AKA the night mentioned in the OP.

Okay, here's my profile done ;p

Name: DR. Aleister Chiron
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Nationality: British

Appearance:

http://moe.animecharactersdatabase.com/uploads/chars/4758-1714373152.png (http://moe.animecharactersdatabase.com/uploads/chars/4758-1714373152.png)

Personality:

Aleister Chrion is a complex individual to say the least. Whilst he may be a Doctor, and therefore a stronger believer in the Hippocrates Oath and the power of Science, at the same time he is quite happy to remove your kneecaps if you annoy him or bend his scientific ways in order to achieve ‘more interesting’ results per-say. Not exactly a believer in the paranormal, but not exactly a sceptic either, prefers to take a spoonful of sugar rather than salt and his sometimes outlandish theories are generally dead on the mark due to his somewhat roundabout way of thinking.

A Psy.D. from Harvard and a BMMS from Oxford, as well as a holder of numerous Honorary Degrees in such fields as Psychosurgery, Philosophy, Theology, Divinity and English, Aleister is far from an idiot, quite the opposite, with an IQ that makes the average Mensa candidate look like an individuals with ‘borderline intellectual functioning’ he has a habit of inserting his ‘professional opinion’ into everything and the annoying tendency to babble in sciencespeak without bothering to translate for the average layman, which is another of his many bad habits.

Background:

A former graduate from both Harvard and Oxford and a pioneering expert in the field of Psychodynamic Catharsis, you would imagine that an individual like Aliester would be snapped up by one of those huge, advanced hospitals with all the latest equipment like those in Chine or South Africa, or maybe end up going private and running his own clinic. So how he ended up getting head-hunted by the FBI is a mystery only he really knows the answer too. Either way, be it Doctor, Coroner, Medical Examiner or occasional Forensic Scientist, he excelled in every field he put his hands on.

His assignment to the Extra-Normal Investigations Division was almost a no-brainer, after all if budgetary restraints are getting a bit cumbersome, why not hire a jack-of-all-trades rather than several individuals specialists. His keen intellect and ability to easily adapt his mind around complex theories make him both a great scientist and an excellent paranormal specialist. Although he is normally not what you might call a ‘Field’ operative, he has certainly done all the training, and some more of his own, so he is quite happily to jump into the action if he needs to, although he would rather hang back and watch.

Funny you should mention arms...

Anyway, Vahan, once we wrap up the prologue I'm going to bring you in. There's just no convenient place to introduce you mid-raid.

Also, apologies for the brutality and the non-winnable bossfight to open things with. On a note that might not be entirely un-related, who here's played Threads of Fate?

Hey dewawer, I was actually thinking of hotwiring a car in the opposite direction of the van, so I could hit the android thing from the back.

dewawer
May 15th, 2012, 09:35 AM
Sounds cool, I guess I'll help you with that, then draw its attention so you can splatter him without trouble.

Suncofold
May 15th, 2012, 10:08 AM
Yeah, so I would be running away from the van, and not towards it. I'm aiming for a black pickup truck; I want to hit the android from the back, and since I want to hit him from behind I'd be running away.

Here, to clarify, when I'm imagining the street, from Victor's perspective, the van is to the right, with the android thing walking towards it. The pickup truck is half a block to the left, so Victor would be running that way. Does that make sense?

Bloble
May 15th, 2012, 11:09 AM
Hey Shad, is Alexia in any shape to move right now, or is she too injured for me to control?

Alexia is wounded, but she's still mobile. No major or debilitating injuries, beyond a concusion and lots of cuts, scrapes, and bruises.

You were only thrown through a window, after all.

Also, I should probably clarify on the state of the van. The Doll (what I've decided to name the thing) rolled it. It's lying on it's side.

And the doll's been walking towards the house this whole time.

Suncofold
May 15th, 2012, 08:18 PM
Huh, I thought it was walking towards the van for some odd reason.

Well, no biggie, doesn't change what my goals are :/

Alright, sorry for the delay.

I just finished a playthrough of Fable 3, because TV Tropes reminded me that it was sitting on shelf.

Also, that my first playthrough of it ended up being fairly shitty. This time, I had a lot more fun, and got what I like to call the True End.

I really, really wish that the Crawler had a giant alien space flea form, though. It would have made the final fight a bit more awesome.
