In my neighbourhood there are pamphlets for 4 Chinese restaurants, each with distinct design, address, menu and telephone numbers.

But all of them are actually the same restaurant!

(And their mapo tofu is terrible!)

Fuck that. No way. I'm just still in a flabbergasted state that nobody I know, online or otherwise, seems to care that the IRS was specifically targeting opposing political groups and denying them the same privileges that the others had.

Oh, and then the wiretapping of the Associated Press to find out sources.

Because if we cared we woulda done something when Jefferson did stuff he considered unconstitutional? Also I'd much rather have the tyranny of today than the tyranny of McCarthyism or an active system of impressment.

If it's a question, the tofu is slightly rancid and more gooey than usual, and it's more sour than spicy, and it's all watery.

No, my question was about history in general.

No, my question was about history in general.

And we provided anecdotal answers from the two episodes from history in question. Which funnily enough is what history is, a collection of anecdotes. So yes, at times bad things happening to people felt bad for the average folk in history. Which is about as useful of a statement as "War is inconvenient for the people's whose yards are being fought in"

I know, but how about to the folk whose yards aren't being stomped in the war? Well, sure, the neighboring country are being ravaged by a war in their lands, but it ain't your lands so...Makes me wonder, how did they feel back then that such was happening but it doesn't affect them directly and explicitly anyway?

Per mentulam, unitas.

I also feel grumpy that Leo is choosing to mimic a real-life mistake is his facetiousness. People trying to coin stuff from that kind of Latin phrase use ad in the wrong place far too often, apparently because they fail at basic logic or English comprehension in addition to Latin. They need to be thrown into space.

Something that may in time evolve into something substantial, but for now is just for practice:

In the day we sweat it out on the streets, of a runaway American dream. At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines. Those lines always struck me as something more than poetic. Keep in mind 1975 Bruce Springsteen was not the man that America knew him as in 1985. He was leaner, much hungrier, much less popular, but much more ambitious. He had that fire of competition burning in his heart and the flames of a desperate man singing in his veins.

So what are you getting at?

My point is that that young man hit it off, and he hit it hard with his 1975 album ‘Born to Run.’ And afterward fame was his for the taking. Darkness on the Edge of Town was also a huge success, the River is almost epic in its range of songs and themes, Nebraska is a wonderfully dark look at the American lifestyle most of us still don’t want displayed, and of course, there’s Born in the USA.

How did it go from Rosalita to Born in the USA?

Time and circumstance changes a man. His girlfriend at the time, who was the inspiration for Rosalita, Backstreets, and other such hits, left him. The record company was going to shut him down and off if he couldn’t produce a best seller album in 1975. He went touring around the country and melded his own childhood experiences with those of the other disgruntled Americans. His experiences gave him wisdom.

But what does this have to do with me?

What do any of our struggles and pains have to do with anything? It means something because of what you take away from it.

I’m not sure I understand.

You will in time. Now come on, we need you to go cut the moon in half or some other stupid crap like that.

I mean it's always cool when people man up and get the girls they want but this here is a clusterfuck of drama waiting to happen. Because if you settle for 2nd prize you will always have that fact hanging over your head and that's just pure poison for a halfway healthy relationship and honestly disrespectful to her. I mean really, if you get a girlfriend do you want her to take you as a seat warmer, being the dude who she got because the top class was sold out?

And well I don't think I have to explain to you why you shouldn't tell somebody "oh its nice that you want me but i'd rather have your best friend instead."

You'll get more chances.

TypeWannabe

Another practice that may not even become anything:

“What do you want from me then?!” he screamed, “you want me to just curl up into a fucking ball and fade away? You want to leave these people to their doom? I refuse! I have the power, I have the will, if just one person, just one person, is willing to stand…”

His voice broke. And who could blame him? It’s easy for a man to talk the talk and not walk it straight and true; far harder for a good man to try to lie to himself. His hands clenched into claws and he fell to his knees, roaring out against the silence about the injustice of it all.

“Listen to me,” the other man said with an uncharacteristic gentleness, “there are some things you can change, with time and effort, with patience and love, with dedication and faith. A math impaired idiot can become a genius if he is willing and able to put in the work. An illiterate hobo can learn to read if there is somebody willing to work with him and if he genuinely wants to. Things that a pessimistic man would see as miracles can be achieved if you work at them. These are material things, driven by the immaterial.

‘But the things of the mind and soul are harder to change. Sometimes, it can be all but impossible, and there are no saints among us broken men, that are willing to climb a seemingly insurmountable hill. I’m not saying that good men and women don’t exist, don’t actively put in their whole lives to helping others, but you aren’t going to find them here. Way, way, way back, before the Internet, before we were sperm cells, before our fathers were sperm cells, before our mothers even had that childish beauty, America was a new world.

“It was an unexplored continent, with unfamiliar and dangerous landscapes and wildlife! People came over and they saw it as an opportunity for a rebirth and renewal. The land carried a promise of a new life, where you could cast off your baggage and get on board a shining new train. The USA was going to be a castle on a hill. A mixing pot of cultures and memes, where you could go and be anything you wanted.

“But the promise for many immigrants and many natives was a lie. Even in the new world they faced discrimination and hate. To make this new world the settlers murdered and poisoned the natives, they hunted the wildlife to extinction, they erected big steel giants that hummed with hellish fire and spat out smog thick enough to blot out the light of day. Sometimes when you’re trying to forge something better, you discard the things that matter, is what I’m getting at.”

“I don’t even get your point!” he cried, “I’m not American! I’m Scottish! Check my damn IP Address.”

“…huh,” the other man said, “Well, still, it’s still relevant. You want to change things around here, but man, what needs changing isn’t just the system, isn’t just about making an illiterate man read or a dumb man smart. It’s about changing the very natures of the people. And they don’t want to be changed. I tell you as sure as sure, if these people wanted to be saved they would have done it themselves a long time ago. They would have risen up in a great big wave and broken their shackles and cast their overlords down.

“But they didn’t, because they made this place what it is. Why would they change what they’ve made? We’ve been going from place to place, but did you ever wonder how people see you? Do you think they look up to you as a hero, or an underdog? Or did you ever imagine that what you think is good isn’t good for them? You look around and see fear and desolation, but what do you think they see with their blind eyes?”

And he said nothing, just sat there, because again, how could he speak up? Human nature is hypocrisy, but a man of convictions can’t turn a blind eye to his own. The words he was being told were another version of the truth. But they weren’t the only interpretation.

Slowly he rose to his feet. His eyes had lost some of their fire and stalwart hope on the fall down from justice, but they still saw. His hands were scarred and blistered from fighting and anger, but they could still move. His legs were sore and weary from running after the impossible dream, but they could still carry his weight. His muscles ached and burned from recent exertions, but they still functioned. His heart was laced with scars of heartbreak and pain, but it still beat. And the fire, as always, burned in his heart. Because the fire wasn’t willpower. If willpower fueled action, then what fuels willpower? The fire that burned in the hearts and souls of every living being was the eternal flame of hope.

“If what you say is true, then there is no hope for man,” he said with barely any emotion in his voice, but there was still a flicker of some great, indescribable emotion laced in his voice, “I will fight, and I will lose, because I stand alone. But there is good left in the world, you admitted it yourself.”

“None of that light shines here,” the other man shook his head sadly.

“Because you’ve been looking in the wrong places,” he said, “even in your example of America you focused on the wrong things. The people came to the new frontier from the far lands, and they changed it using their external foundations. But the thing that keeps all of us going is hope, and that’s something that resides within the very core of humanity. It’s something internal, and it’s that internal thing that will save us.

“Hard times come, and hard times go. In time, maybe all our glories and struggles will have been for nothing. The sands of time will obscure and cover everything. But while we live, we can strive for a better tomorrow. You say these people are without hope, but what about me? I was one of them, just like a dog that’s been beat too much, savage and untrusting, trying to cover up bruises with a hard mouth and a harder fist. But I changed, and I even gave a good licking right back to The Man.

“There’s still hope that these people can change. I know it, I’ve experienced it. They just need somebody willing to take the first steps. Come on hobo, rise up. These people need us.”

“But what if your way of ‘fixing’ things makes them even worse? What if your means turn out far worse than your ends?” the other man protested.

“Then that’s the price we pay for hope,” he said simply, shrugging, “nobody said that hope can lead to anything, or even that it’ll uplift you in the end. But you keep hoping, and you keep on striving, and perhaps you’ll break through in the end. All we can do is the best that we can do. If we don’t even try to make a better future, then nothing will improve. So come on. I’ll walk tall and I’ll walk proud, and when these frightened people see my tall shadow running to face our tyrants, maybe some of them will join us. And maybe it’ll all snowball from there. So rise up, we’ve got work to do.”

Got around to marathoning Saya no Uta. Got the second ending on my first playthrough and it broke my heart,

Even through her agonizing death throws, she still crawled to Fuminori's side and died with him... Beautiful and soul-fragment crushingly depressing.

Disatisfied, I went back from where I saved at the second save, and chose not to call Tou- I mean, Ryouko. Just finished that ending, the first. I cried tears of joy and sorrow T^T

I was so happy to see her pure maidens heart filled with the joy that only love could provide, and see her accomplish her oh so noble goal... Ah, what a beautiful world her song heralds! Certainly, somewhere in the atmosphere of that new and beautiful planet, Saya yet watches over her children- and her beloved... Yeah... Nice job, Butch Gen, nice job.

Would go on and get the third ending for the "completed all routes" and "full CG set" trophies to go in my mental trophy case, but I work tomorrow, and cannot afford to get further engrossed and stay up too late...

That... actually does encourage me to try it. I've heard really good things about it, but have been worried about the length. Not really up on the free time counter, but I'll push it up on priority list.

Yeah Saya no Uta is good(Like real good). Only real minus would be as stated by Lilith, its length.

Disturbing as hell but best mindfuck ever.

You'll love Saya's theme. Lala, lalala...~

the ero-scenes are maybe a little too frequent

Well, that too.

May 25th, 2013, 04:55 AM
hm i dont mind short VN's, for me the only minus point with Saya is that a few CG's get re-used a little too often, and the ero-scenes are maybe a little too frequent for its length, but otherwise its one of the greatest masterpieces ever.

I'm not a stupid gaytard, it's just not that great. There's no mindfuck, there's nothing great about it. It's just OK. Saya is a decent character, but she's the only one. The visuals are good though, and a few songs stick out as well. Definitely worth your time given it's length, but don't let everyone hype it up too much for you.

I...I can't believe I haven't stayed up to date. I just remember starting up the Xros Wars anime and loving it. If the manga is translated I need to read it NOW.

Sadly for me, my interest in Digimon died at Frontier...I believe it was called. Then my first japanese one was Savers, it's hard to not enjoy a hero who punches Ultimate level Digimon in the face and dat second opening o_o.

Then Xros Wars brought out combining and fusing into mech like variants. It was too awesome to pass up!

can i read the manga without having seen the anime? because i kind of missed out on it.you can, but then if you do see the anime after reading the manga, you'll be sad. The manga is so much better. It'd be a shame, really, since the anime (if you ignore the existence of the boy hunters animated self-insert 12 year old ego stroking fanfiction) is, if not the best, one of the best digimon animes. It's up there with Tamers' second half plot, Frontier's character development, and pretty good pacing for a year-long anime. Also caters to the actual digimon game mythos more than any other anime. Also, the anime's first OP is used as an insert song in one of the battles in the manga, so you'll at least want to listen to that. Because there's totally insert songs in the fucking manga.

But Devil Survivor 2 isn't an anime, and it more than makes up for its lack of originality with well-drawn characters, a branching storyline and excellent mechanics" - Kat Bailey, joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/29/devil-survivor-2-review/)
