Finally watched the Kill la Kill OVA, after getting tired of waiting for it to possibly appear on one of the sites I was watching it on and it not appearing on any of them. It was rather satisfying to watch, perhaps mostly for the ways the episode made fun of the series in general. Hopefully it gets released with the final English release DVD, and hopefully one day I will be able to purchase them at a reasonable price, because dat price right now.

Some people in this country are now seriously wanting Ferdinand Marcos back as our President. Seriously.

So they'll rather have their countrymen vanish from extra-judicial killings if it means they'll get to be rich, huh?

What if they want him back because they want his martial law to discipline people?

Nope, they want him back because they want the country to be rich again. (Ironically, this is a misconception. He's the reason why this country is poor, actually.)

Well, I'm still trapped in the hell known as 'Mobile Style' and I have no way of getting off it with my phone. On the bright side, my aunt asked me to keep an eye on her house when she goes to Mexico in December, so I could probably use her computer to set right that which went wrong.

I'm waiting in my cold cell, when the bell begins to chime
Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time
'Cause at 5 o'clock they take me to the gallows pole
The sands of time for me are running low
When the priest comes to read me the last rites
I take a look through the bars at the last sights
Of a world that has gone very wrong for me
Can it be that there's some sort of error
Hard to stop the surmounting terror
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

For some reason, I have a feeling of obligation to respond personally to every birthday wish I get on Facebook, even if the response is a simple "Thanks!". I don't do that umbrella "Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone!" post. O.o

MZeroX
November 13th, 2014, 10:37 PM
I used to do that when my friends list was still actually just my friends, but now that it's a mode of communication with acquaintances as well, I'm conflicted about what to do. Respond only to friends? Respond in obligation rather than gratitude to everyone? Address everyone in an umbrella post that only people who get my feed info will see? I really don't have a set response, so my day-of actions are often on whim. I always find that I'm asking myself if an obligation post diminishes the gratitude of the action. =/

Aekami-ran
November 13th, 2014, 10:46 PM
Another option would just be to like all the posts, but I personally feel that of all the options, that's the most gratitude-diminishing. It's really fun when you have a ton of birthday wishes though, lol. I remember in the mid-undergrad years, I would have maybe near a hundred posts, and it would get so tedious that I started generic responding to everyone. I guess the amount of "true gratitude" and personalization just depends on how many I have to respond to. And naturally, my thanks to friends will be more in-depth and personal.

I made my first function in python today by simplifying an example function whose purpose was to calculate a percentage when given two numbers, such as the amount of times a word appears in a corpus compared to the amount of tokens in the corpus.

So the function percentage was

def percentage(count, total):
return 100*count/total

and if I wanted to get the percentage of a word in some text, I had to insert two giant arguments into the function, e.g. percentage(text1.count("a")/len(text1)). Thinking that I could make it simpler instead of having to type all that crap out every time I wanted a word percentage, I tried making my own function, as follows

def wordpercentage(text, word):
return 100*text.count(word)/len(text)

Tested it a few times, and it worked. So yay, I've made my first function in natural language processing with python, with some assistance and some faint Java knowledge.

I think most people find Super Metroid a very great game.
Since I played Super Metroid Phazon Hack yesterday. (Playable Dark Samus FTW.)
But what is in your opinion a better Final Area?

The Tourian or Valkyrie 11 Spaceship. (Final Area in Super Metroid Phazon.)

\/ Tourian \/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm0z78qZFuw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kajld5kpCDM

\/ Valkyrie XI \/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WfpzM3Bluo

I personally find Valkyrie XI much better, since it has also the elements of Metroid Fusion, has 2 Bosses to fight and have much better background music. (Tourian background music is disgusting.)

The Tourian is only better as escape than Valkyrie XI since the Tourian has a timer before the planet blows up.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Simple. V/V was TYPE-Venus, but upon defeat became a loli. ORT is scientifically proven to be a giant hikikomori alien spider... knight... thing, who lives in what is likely a Batcave. Following these two staunch examples and the unspoken rule that Waifus are the most powerful beings in the Nasuverse, all TYPEs are Waifus, and thus females(or men who wear pink). As such all TYPEs at some point were alien lolis or shotas. And they are obviously all Kaiju, and the reason they're so hard to kill is because they've been preparing for the unlikely event that... how do you say it... the 'oo-mons' are capable of hurting them, in which case they all believe that they are Batman. See, I told I wasn't crazy! I'm not crazy! You're all the crazy ones! ESPECIALLY YOU NAPPA!

Are you using Insurance, out of pocket, or some form of government assistance? If you're going by Insurance you can usually get therapy easy enough for depression (Or similar disorders.) by request. Government can be tricky as they usually need recommendation.

However the real problem is probably going to be finding someone that isn't "corrupt", greedy, or an idiot. Do you, by whatever means you use, have the option of changing or switching whom you are seeing? I know that you can usually do that for as little of a reason as not liking the person in some countries but I can't profess to know for sure of your country.

A bit of exploring through the Korean wikipedia article on Cinderella and talking with a Korean friend about the Gamarella comic has led me to the following piece of information regarding the Cinderella story.

"In the original French text, the most detestable of her step-sisters calls her "Cucendron" (often translated as "Cinderwench" in English), which should read "Cul-cendron" - meaning literally "ash-ass" or "with her ass in the cinders." Her other step-sister calls her "Cendrillon," the contraction of "cendre" ("cinder") and "souillon" ("slovenly maid")."

Mainly because I asked my friend to translate a line that had these big words in them that he couldn't figure out: 뀌썽드롱 (kkwisseongdeurong) and 상드리용 (sangdeuriyong). I already knew that sangdeuriyong referred to "Cendrillon," but I had no idea in hell what kkwisseongdeurong could mean. I got close enough with "Cuisendron" in a Google search, I guess. O.o I gotta remember that Korean and Japanese mimic the French "u" sound by writing "ui."

Here, you can look through the wikipedia article on Quebec French profanity (sacres).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_French_profanity

But just to make it all come to life, here's a scene from the movie "Bon Cop Bad Cop" in which the Quebecker detective Bouchard teaches the Parisian French-speaking Ontarian detective Ward about Quebec French swearing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUGW0jszPzo

The swears featured in the video are:
Mon hostie de cālice de pourris-sale
Hostie de pourri
Hostie de cālice de pourris
Hostie de pourris de cālice de tabarnak
M'a t'en cālicer une lą
M'a t'en crisser un
Toué mon tabarnak
J'va t'en donner un tabarnak
J'm'en cālice
M'en cālice
Ciboire de tabarnak

For the most part, they're all versions of "fuck," "fuck you," "you fuck," and "I'm gonna fuck you up." Of note is that these sacres are all or mostly based off of Catholic mass terms, e.g. hostie = host (Eucharist wafer), cālice = chalice (the cup for wine), crisser = Christ, verbified from "criss," tabarnak = tabernacle (the place where they put the wafers when not being used), ciboire = ciborium (receptacles for the wafers).

Various sacres can be stringed together simply by putting "de" in between them, the result of which is a more intensified swear. Just learn like three or four of the sacres and learn how to string them together, and voila, you can swear lightly all the way up to heavily! As an example, although I can't show you a video of it, a few scenes later, Detective Ward tries out his first sacre by saying "Shit de merde de shit de fuck de tabarnak!" combining English swears, more international French swears, and Quebec swears.

What's your favorite language?

Aekami-ran
November 20th, 2014, 07:52 PM
What's your favorite language?

That's a fun question. I like different languages for various reasons, but right now I have the biggest obsession with Afrikaans because of how amazingly close it is to English. Widely considered the youngest language on Earth, Afrikaans is amazingly easy for an English speaker to learn, with very minimal conjugation, few irregular forms, and surprising 1-to-1 correspondence of idiomatic forms.

Here's an example of minimal conjugation, using the word "skryf," meaning "to write."

I write = Ek skryf
I wrote = Ek het geskryf
I will write = Ek sal skryf

...I'm not even gonna bother to put the rest of the chart in with the various singular and plural persons, because all you have to do is replace the "Ek" (I) with each other person: jy (you), hy (he), sy (she), ons (we), julle (you, plural), hulle (they).

The irregular verbs are literally countable with one hand, and they're only irregular because their infinitive, present, and past forms aren't the same/don't have stuff added to them. These irregular verbs are, in order of infinitive, present, and past form:
- wees (to be), is (is), was (was)
- wil (to want), wil (wants), wou (wanted)
- hź (to have), het (has), had (had)

They're completely regular when putting them together with subjects though, e.g. ek is, jy is, hy is, sy is, dit is, ons is, julle is, hulle is.

Sentences are so similar to English that with just a dictionary, you could figure out what's happening. But my favorite part is the 1-to-1 correspondence of many idiomatic forms. How many languages can you think of that can pull off this stuff?

Who the fuck are you? -> Wie (who) die (the) fok (fuck) is (are) jy (you)?
Kak gebeur. -> Kak (shit) gebeur (happens).

Or even on a less idiomatic phrase level, here's a line from a song called "Is ek nie die een?" (Am I not the one?):
Is ek nie die een wat jy weet, jy wil hź? -> Is (Am) ek (I) nie (not) die (the) een (one) wat (that) jy (you) weet (know), jy (you) wil (want) hź (to have)?

Of course, this is an oversimplification, as the sentence structure correspondence breaks down when we get to more complicated sentences due to Afrikaans actually being a subject-object-verb language AND a verb-second language, which means that in certain clauses, part of the verb must come second and the other part of the verb must come last, which throws off the correspondence. For example:

Ek sal jou nooit vergeet. -> Ek (I) sal (will) jou (you) nooit (never) vergeet (forget). -> I will never forget you.

The verb-second rule forces the "sal" auxiliary verb into the second position of the sentence (as opposed to the expected "Ek jou nooit sal vergeet" which would be incorrect). After the verb-second rule is fulfilled, the main verb (vergeet) has to occupy the last position to satisfy the subject-object-verb order.

Just goes to show that no language is ever just a complete analog of another!

Another reason for considering this a favorite is that it's permeated the way I think about language to an unexpected degree. For example, when I'm reading a Germanic language and come across a "g," I read it like Dutch/Afrikaans "g," even when I know that sound isn't the right one for that language. I've even done it in Japanese of all languages. A few days ago, I even mixed English and Afrikaans into one sentence and said "What's dit?" I actually meant to say "What's that?" but it came out wrong, lol. By the way, it would've been "Wat's dit?" or "Wat is dit?" in Afrikaans.

And then I like Japanese because animangames.

I just sold a whole lotta pile of cardboard in a junk shop. Earned 56 pesos. (Just a little more than 1 US$.) Madworld by Gary Jules plays in my head.

And here in America I just spent a few hours crushing boxes and generally throwing away piles of cardboard at the expense of fifteen bucks. Madworld indeed.

Where did the "Ik hou niet van deze stilte" come from?

I had such a big urge to put "nie" or "niet" again after "stilte" 'cause you need the second one in similar sentences in Afrikaans. >_>;

Wait, it's been 4 months since it updated? I didn't realize the wait was this long.

Just what were you talking about dressing for?

This is "dressing" as in "salad dressing". I think I get the projected meaning, what the speaker means. But in terms of structural meaning, it just seems as if two sentences have been combined together. Reminds me of how the "t" in "pastime" is shared by "past" and "time".

I'm sort of confused by the sentence. Can someone kindly further clarify?
