Mongols showed no mercy for those that resisted. One of the reasons they conquered such territories as quickly as they did.
Actually that's a good point the mongols had a huge empire stretching from the far east to eastern europe. Claiming all those territories would have incurred quite a lot of casualties It was quite funny when I was reading this book on the crusades and the mongols just showed up out of nowhere XD.

A lot of the time you realize it wasn't even the Mongols being devious as it was their enemies being retarded.

Like christ, the feigned retreat is like reaching into your enemies brains and turning off their ability to not blindly chase after you.

At least with medieval Europeans.

The reality is different from the ideal.

Self study will help, but the only thing that can be done is limiting the damage at this point.

When I said that it was the final goal I didn't mean that that was their biggest goal. Just that if they had accomplished their goal it would have resulted in amass genocide of the Jews and other ethnic groups. I should have worded it better. Sorry.

It's not that simple. It's normal for the seemingly victorious side to chase down the retreating side. If you don't have a very professional army with the leadership able to quickly dish out clear commands, there will most likely be a chase. Mongols were specialized in that maneuver so they pulled it off quite well frequently.

Mongols were specialized in that maneuver so they pulled it off quite well frequently.

There's also the fact that they made it a point to kill of the leadership and generals on the losing side, which would have nicely explained why it took so long for people to catch on.

You're right. I guess I just allowed the constant litany of "feigned retreat --> slaughter" to make me think those opposing the Mongols would have access to the same information I do. An amateur mistake.

A lot of people need to realise that the mongols didn't just use horse archers. They used caraphracts, foot soldiers, siege engines- the whole chebang. In games horse archers are great because they can keep running back and shooting. Obviously that wouldn't work for claiming land which is what the mongols where very good at.

Als die Nazis die Kommunisten holten,

Als sie die Sozialdemokraten einsperrten,

Als sie die Gewerkschafter holten,

Actually it's great for claiming land which is why steppe nomads repeatedly claimed land throughout history. The Mongols just added Chinese siege engineers to get around walls, which is the only thing that ever stopped Nomad invasions.

Still the mongols didn't just use horse archers. I agree though that they wouldn't have begun with siege engineers and stuff because initially they weren't claiming fortifications.

They took the engineers from Chinese land after they claimed said land with their horse archers.

It is true that during the interwar period German farming lagged behind scaling and mechanization like you were seeing with the American/Soviet economies.

Pretty sure that was because of the rather massive amount of reparations set in Versailles.

And then they did deals with the USSR to sell military technology in exchange for agricultural tech.

Funny all that.

I was talking about nomads in general. Like look at the Persians: from the time they unified the Iranian Plateau forward basically every Iranian regime acculturated and became Persian besides the Selucids, and that's mostly because the Selucids reigned from Mesopotamia and Syria rather than Iran.

Not that new rulers wouldn't change the drapes every so often, like swapping eagles for moons, but they'd be calling themselves Shah soon enough.

I said I wanted it in a group chat because one person in this different couple just got it as a gift and I expressed interest in it. Anyway as far as I can tell, she isn't big into the sorta high fantasy that LOTR spawned. She's more into movies and I think it's fair to say that movies are rather sparse of good high fantasy (obviously outside the LOTR trilogy, not the hobbit). How big of a history buff is she? If you gave an order of battle book would she be super excited? Or is she like me and would love something like this (http://www.amazon.com/Nazi-Foreign-Policy-1933-1941-Global/dp/0415862558) (though this is mad expensive for hs peeps).

Having said all that I always root for Byzantium in Paradox Megathreads because the idea of Rome still existing by the 20th century is always hilarious to me.

I like Paradox LP's but past a certain point it's basically the player nation stomping all over everything without any real threat to challenge them.

The problem is that the other source for alternative history has the exact same problem.

Yeah I couldn't afford that. Apparently on school days all she does when she's not doing chores is making massive elaborate history mind maps. Anyway leo will be glad to know that I'm going to bed now because I have a long day tomorrow with it being my friend's birthday party and I have a battle to DM. Sorry about all the stupid stuff I said and thx if you didn't follow the evil leo's whims (although I can't fully hate her because she has a cat avatar....)

But yes, I did for a second as well, and I dunno who it is.

The Byz LP and TW/Paradox LPs on SA right now are both riddled with crazy, and genuine (blurg, Sicily LPs awful deliberate ruining) setbacks so they're pretty okay. There's also Ols Men Telling Stories, a CK2 LP where the OP switches countries every 100 years or so to let the world evolve in crazier ways (he's currently a Nestorianism MR in Socotra).
