I'm not sure what you are asking here. The nature of the world being illusive? That wasn't the planetarium machine. That just projected the castle. You know, Exupery's Citadel. Akio's mind was on the sky and everyone was looking up to it. But the ideal was made of lies. That's pretty easy.

The world being confusing, that's just how it is at that age. Notice the world becomes much firmer and mroe boring when old people like Tokiko, the Teacher, or Mom are around. Mikage and Ruka are still in the dream, of course, so they still see everything change under their eyes.
So it's all metaphorical then. It was pretty obvious that the swords they where using weren't sharp and the bit where himemiya back stabs utena was like they do stabs on stage. I'm just wondering what it would look like if someone walked in on one of the duels. Pretty funny I imagine.

Ikuhara is mostly considered the mastermind behind it all, perhaps a bit more than is deserved. He is a genius but he didn't do it alone.

Explaining Akio and Anthy as people in a more literal sense requires a pinch of hinduism (good luck making sense of Curried High Trip without it), but what you should have gathered from the show, and Tale of the Rose, was 'they are more than human', 'they are very old', and 'they have been at this for a very long time and are very tired of it'. That's really all you need to know as far as story is concerned.

Now, the basic metaplot, if you focus on it, uses the pretty classic hermeticist motive, of the gate of knowledge. It's a gate that shall not be opened, even though it can be opened, and the challenge presented to the student is to understand why.

Akio is doing a ritual of selection to pick up a pure human being out of all the grain, so they can open the gate. The gate in the arena has his 'truth', like the castle is his 'lies'.

The problem with finding a pure being is that perfection is only found in death and in memory.

So, Akio sees his childhood as perfect - even though it was only because of someone else that he could be a prince in the first place, even though he had failed someone in the first place, even though he wasn't a prince in the first place. The only true prince is one nothing can stain - a dead one, like Touga in the movie. While Akio begrudgingly is able to admit this, he thinks that the truth hidden under the lies that reality is made of was that he was someone special after all. That he was only stained by growing up. By opening the gate, the lies would fade away, the truth would become actualized and plain to see.

Of course, you can't have someone open your own gate for you, unless you both want to. So what Utena did was open Anthy's gate instead, and actualize her truth.

I mean, if "take whatever you want from it and go" was the intention, then Anno in particular should totally be able to get away with that. But a work that has tricks and falsehood as a big theme, upon stating there had been no particular goal to it, is in a great danger of being treated as a trick in its entirity.

The reason why people don't treat Utena as a heap of bullshit is that it is simply too profound and carefully constructed to be made without a meaning in mind - at least the most obvious one all the fans agree on.

Compare it to Umineko, which is being treated as a heap of bullshit despite the creator stating what the truth of the story and the moral was, because the construction is so faulty it simply is a heap of bullshit to plain sight. this is bait

This is a tangent but, this reminds me of a story my teacher told me...

A boy took an exam in Sociology (I think?) and he was finding it very difficult as it wasn't about anything he had learned throughout the year. Only afterwards did he learn that he had picked up the wrong exam paper! Specifically, he had chosen the wrong module, made for a different set of students. All the other students had taken the "correct" exam and did well. Thankfully he was allowed to retake the exam and passed in the end.
