Let me tell you from personal experience of owning about eight dogs and four cats that the largest reason to own a cat over a dog is that cats are incredibly low maintenance and have a lot less emotional dependence on you, their owner, so you can afford to spend more than an hour away from home without them suffering extreme heartbreak.

I literally leave mine at home alone for entire weekends and show up and all he does is walk past the front door when I get home like "hey you're back, clean my poopbox."
