Definitely not a hunger thing, I've had McD's in the States when I was starving and it wasn't that good even then. Their ingredients are just better because they're a thousand times more local.

In college, I had developed a better diet to the point that I had revulsion to almost all fast food, but then I moved back home and it was basically like "Well your tastes are too expensive" and especially with my desk job it was just "Suck it up and learn to eat this crap again."

But we're still Taco Bell buddies, right?

Sex is a great idea*.

Sleep is for the weak.

I have had those but mostly I have murder nightmares with alarming frequency.

Yeah, Taco Bell was always my concession when fast food was a last resort, even when I otherwise had completely quit the stuff.

And I am weak and constantly need sleep even with said murder nightmares because bed is nice. And sex is stupid*.

*Because contact with other human beings is inadvisable and I don't think people like mentioned in previous condition exist (as a general rule). Therefore, people at large should give up.

Pretty sure they've cleared the one problem up by now. Can't blame you about the Chik-Fil-A (which is a pain in the ass to phonepost).

But every bite at Taco Bell is a Russian Roulette with your digestive system on the line. I guess other places or buying salad mix and throwing some in a bowl with some carrots, tomatoes, and such aren't viable.

I just like their salad mix, if I am going to buy fast food. I've never actually experienced bad Taco Bell food that made my stomach hurt or anything since I was a little kid.

But most other fast food places haven't been having E. Coli outbreaks.

Apparently it has to do with them using tomatoes that were infected, which is apparently kind of common and not entirely their fault, to make fresh salsa on site, which was one of their selling points. They tried to do everything as fresh as was feasible for a fast food restaurant. Now, they are doing a lot more of their tomato prep prior to it being shipped to store so that it can be packaged in a way that is much less likely to have E. Coli, but no more fresh salsa.

Nah trust me you want it cooking rapidly at a high heat under pressure so that you can release the oil within the seed-pods. If you just put it in to such a slow-cooking soup then you'll get less of the flavor than you want. Boil rapidly for the remaining time and you'll be fine.

I mean, if you consider "decently warm" to be staying hot?

I like my water piping.

That's bad for your skin. I can't put my toes even in water that is as hot as I imagine you and other human-cookers seem to approve of. Why do all my friends do this??? Mine is very very very warm and my skin is pink in places by the end, but what you're talking about then sounds like literal human-cooking.

A heated soaking tub! Or better yet, a shower. Showers are preferable because they keep you active, by standing and adjusting your posture from time to time. The immediate advantage is that a hot shower will constantly renew the flow of hot water, keeping your perceived temperature constantly high. The immediate advantage is that this will be as hot as you like for an immediate exposure without the inconvenient effects of a bath, such as waiting for the tub to fill, waiting for it to reach the optimal temperature, and then growing bored with the lukewarm soup you're now occupying.

Furthermore, it's easier to stay attentive of your body in a shower. While a bath does provide comfort, it's only a shallow imitation of a proper heated tub. If heat if your priority, then a shower will deliver that as rapidly as you please, giving you the opportunity to step out and swaddle yourself in a quilt while you settle down and relax on a sofa afterward. Realistically, one could seek thermal comfort in other ways that this as well. For example, building muscle will give you more internal mass to store and generate heat, while also increasing your resilience to cold weather effects.

Another advantage of a shower is that most of the heat in the tub does not flow to you, but to your environment. A shower at a high temperature will rapidly dump the water's thermal energy into your body after contact with your skin, making it a much faster, much more enjoyable experience.

I have averted this crisis by having my laptop setting on the side of the tub with me, hence my continued stream of lamenting.
This is good, it maximizes the utility of the mobile computer.

However, while in the tub you must either endeavor to keep your hands dry, or to never touch your laptop. This is an inconvenience since it forces you into an advanced state of passivity in a particularly relaxing, quiet moment, and if something should occur that requires adjustment, you will be hard-pressed to sort it out without some lengthy process. Getting up, drying your hands, and carefully handling the device that ought to never get wet is a pain, no doubt.

Now, while it seems like a convenience, a mitigating factor, could it be that a laptop in the bath is only an additional trouble? Another fragile something that must be managed, while in a state that is anything but conducive to that sort of awareness? Indeed, these difficulties are why I would not recommend it.

Instead, in the immediate moments after finishing the shower, drying and dressing, find a nice down or cotton quilt to keep in that delicious warmth you've spent so long accumulating. Wrap yourself in that, settle down into a comfortable posture, and relax on some article of furniture while enjoying your browsing, now with the additional ability to change shows or webpages as you wish, drawing your hands in and out of the cozy shell as you please.

Righty, fat is great at insulating the heat you build up, and so it's natural that you'll feel a lot colder.

Think of heat in two ways: generation and dissipation. Muscle accelerates the former, while fat slows the latter.

If you build muscle, then you'll find that by twitching or just moving around a little, you'll have an increased ability to offset the loss of your heat by generating more of it to compensate. You can even get into a routine of doing some comfortably easy exercise in short little sets in order to stay warm throughout the day. Muscle is advantageous in other ways, because it can also cushion your body in the event of some traumatic impact, and increases your ability for locomotion in any serious situation. The only thing that'll generate heat, beyond the amount your body constantly releases, is motion, so keep that up whenever you're cold.

He's practicing for his career in very elegant technical writing.

Also, I don't have the water droplet problem because I am so weirded out by getting my face wet that I constantly have a dry wash cloth somewhere in reach where I can dry around my eyes after I wash my face. In cases of bathing instead of showering, I can dry off my fingers. But this is why I usually try to limit my laptop tub use to passive things such as watching entertainment.

But what about pruny fingers?
Sure, as a final note.

Fingers tend to develop those swollen ridges after prolonged immersion, and if you've been in particularly hot water they're also likely to be a rich shade of pink with all the extra blood moving through the capillaries. It's interesting to note that pruny fingers are actually an advantage, since they increase the coefficient of friction, and allow one to handle wet objects with increased ease and reliability. In addition, the wrinkling of the fingers has less to do with the water, and more to do with the passive constriction of the blood vessels in the fingertips. The loss of pressure causes certain structures, like your skin, to fold in, forming those familiar ridges.

They are, in my opinion (Inasmuch I can claim an opinion on this matter.) not a great inconvenience. They do not feel bad, compared to very cold fingers, and are quickly sorted out once one leaves the bath. However, if they are a significant inconvenience for whatever reason, then it is a perfectly comfortable and effective solution to rest one's arms on the sides of the tub. That, of course, comes at a cost, but likely not a very significant one.

Weirdly, I almost brought this up the other day, too. In Fate lore, is there any wiggle room or allowance for the possibility of wild magic? I know that what mages are trying to seek is basically impossible to reach at this point in regards to "True Magics", but like, what about wild magics that are just sort of...the imbued life force magics swirling in less populated regions of the earth? Like magic that can't really be "harnessed" as a mystery or something so probably the Association would turn up its nose at it as magic that "doesn't count".

Hm. Ley-lines are a thing. They run underneath the ground and are what FSN Caster taps into other than the residents of Fuyuki to amass her power at the temple, and what Saber draws energy from to charge enough of Excalibur to take out Zero Caster.

Don't quote me on that, though.

Yeah, that's kind of where I have basis for reasoning that there is some degree of elemental magic still in the world apart from what the mages of old kind of closed off from their own use. I think the bigger question is like....whether there's any capacity for independent (if not necessarily sentient) influence of those magics on human beings, without the humans themselves trying to tap into them.

Cool, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't totally left-field in thinking that the quest for Akasha wasn't the one and only path/source of magic in the world, and/or that the inadvertent closing off of those doors didn't really eliminate magic entirely, just the controllable ones that humans were interested in.

Because the point of wild magic is that it's fickle and trying to control it is either an effort in futility or asking for serious unforeseen results. So to me it would make sense for the Association to be like "We ignore that wild magic is even a thing because it does us no fucking good anyway."

No, not phantasmal beasts or mages outside of the MA's authority. I mean like, the notion that there is some kind of magic in/of the Earth itself that is not necessarily sentient but acts upon living things (plant, animal, human, whatever) that might influence anything from those living things' mood/behavior to growth/prosperity or even affecting the future character traits of a developing life.

Just...you know. Wild magic.

no offence but 'wild magic' doesn't really translate into Nasu terms; it's a product of the naturalistic catholic-inspired Tolkien axis of the fantasy genre that doesn't really intersect with the autistic level of systematisation required for otakuland magery

Well, perhaps not built in. I still think they're not wholly incompatible concepts and it provides intriguing possibilities that could enrich the overall universe if there were some kind of natural magic things going on in the world that mages choose to ignore, because mages tend to ignore anything that won't do them any good in fulfilling their goals.

Well, for one, if there were ever some kind of shift in the world (via human action or otherwise) that upset the carefully crafted balance of "Ha...ha..ha... we don't talk about that shit here." within the MA. I mean, it would basically be a huge threat to their power if even the rumor got around that there were people (mage or otherwise) who had been touched by wild magic. Just the hypothetical control measures they might take to dismiss this as "not true magic" and the lengths they might go to strangle out the threat to their authority.

I mean, yeah, obviously they have no qualms killing people or experimenting on them. But if it were a big enough shift in the world, they probably wouldn't be able to use that approach alone.

why on earth would the MA have an interest in demarcating what is and is not magecraft? what does that get them? if being 'touched by vorlons wild magic' is as super-special as you imply it to be, why wouldn't they just slap a sealing designation on anyone who gets it and call it a day? why would their notional authority - which is primarily security-focused more than any kind of 'magical government' business; if you're going to expose magecraft to the world, they'll give you a bad time, but otherwise it's not even necessary for a magus to have anything to do with them (see KnK Touko and Araya; they studied in london, but they've got basically no connection at the time of the story) - be so threatened by some hippies frolicking in the woods?
