Looking at the handwritten translation of each track’s lyrics one of the nurses had kindly done for her (as they had confiscated her headphones on account of ‘too much music, not enough exercise), she felt each track was just one piece to a larger puzzle. They were arranged in such a way as to tell a story and, by her count—twenty-four songs, twelve each side—it was a pretty long one. Depressing, too, as most of the tracks were.

One the A side, in faded black marker, were the initials H. L. While, flipping the tape over, she touched those in bold red on the B side: M. R.

A smile stretched itself across her face. “Always the shy one, aren’t you?”

Hadn’t even come visit her, two years out of her coma and seven months until the end of her rehabilitation. Some girlfriend she was.
