Yeah. Afterwards I thought I was fine, walked away from the accident without a scratch. Later I started getting dizzy, along with headaches and my neck and back stiffening up.

But you know, I had D&D to run, so. PRIORITIES.

Eventually Siriel and Reiu convinced me to "stop ignoring my crippling injury" and go to the hospital. They took x-rays of my neck and they think they found something.

I see.

Whiplash symptoms are headaches, pain in the neck, and can lead to concussions, etc.

Neck brace is for short-term support to help it heal without you messing around and moving your head everywhere like an idiot making it that much harder/longer for your body to recover.

mAc Chaos
May 3rd, 2016, 04:30 PM
That basically sounds like it. I actually noticed a problem when I tried to turn my head and felt it catch before.

Historia
May 3rd, 2016, 04:33 PM
So, like, even if you come away from a car accident feeling fine, (more often than not) you really aren't. Plowed at full speed and getting bounced around isn't something you should ever shrug off as "I'm all good guys".

Always get checked out. Better safe than sorry.

Luckily you did.

What happened to you?

Some dumbass speeding on the highway tried to weave through traffick (there was an ambulance and he was too impatient to wait), flipped over, and slammed into a bunch of cars. I was in one of them.

Came out of it fine, then starting getting neck pains and headaches. Ignored it, thinking it was something else.

Whiplash heals on its own, so by the time I went to get it checked I didn't need a neck brace but the doctors basically said 'you're an idiot, you should have come in right away'.

People down here are incapable of driving on even the tiniest amount of ice, it's hot enough we almost never deal with

I had a dream.

I was unarmed, yet navigating a coastal area architecturally similar to older parts of my hometown with what appeared to be Far Cry 3 game mechanics. The minimap was obscured. I was walking along a road; to my left, a residential house with driveways on both sides and a tall radio antenna between it and the property fence. I ignored the first driveway, but was forced to take shelter in the medium-length grass between the road and the property fence while an enemy convoy drove past on the road. I saw my detection meter fill, yet I was not seen. The convoy consisted of three open lorries - I could not see what they were carrying - and one motorcycle, a Harley, driven by a man I could not recognise, yet who had a copy of Adorno and Horkheimer's Dialectic of Enlightenment prominently displayed strapped to one side of the bike. Possibly inside a sidecar. After they passed, I made my way down the second driveway, which revealed itself to lead beyond the house all the way down to the beach. I saw a wooden table sitting on a small flat area at the back of the house. I walked to it and from seemingly nowhere pulled out a large plastic tub (about the size of an icecream container) which contained some kind of yoghurt. Faintly cream-coloured. It tasted like vanilla and honey. It reminded me of a flavour I tasted once in my childhood, and have never been able to find again. As I ate it with a spoon, I overheard - yet did not hear; it came to me as if it were a voice inside my head - a conservative commentator on a nameless radio station talking about how kids today who live in my town don't realise how good they have it. A moment later, I noticed a blonde woman approaching up the driveway from the beach, walking a dog on a leash. Assuming it was her house I was eating at the back of, I awkwardly attempted to explain myself; it was a nice spot, it had an excellent view (and it did). Fortunately, she was very good-humoured about it. Out of what seemed to be curiosity, she wanted to know what flavour the yoghurt was. I remember a very clear sensation of cleaning clumps of yoghurt off the label with my right index finger and then licking the finger. The label read SWISS VANILLA FRUGE. At this moment the container started being licked by something. I looked down, assuming it was the woman's dog. It turned out that she had had a young boy (maybe 8-10) on her leash the whole time. He behaved unequivocally like a dog. She began to explain to me that he was in the middle of exams and couldn't have treats yet.

I don't remember the rest; that's when I woke up. I felt like I had to make a record of this one because I so rarely have dreams that aren't about very mundane horrible things happening to me.

For the record I wasn't trying to piss you off on purpose

there is a difference between insulting someone and being cheeky

if you also played candy crush regularly, as i have established multiple times that i do, and said "candy crush is garbage", i probably would have said something along the lines of "its the literal worst" because i am self-aware that candy crush is designed to be a cash grab and the fact that i play it anyway makes me somewhat of a sad human being

but since you have established that you don't play it, and that you think it's stupid, telling me this only serves to tell me you think the way i spend a good deal of time is worthless, without consideration as to why someone like me would be playing candy crush in the first place. people who habitually enjoy a particular stupid thing generally have a reason or six for enjoying said stupid thing, and once again telling them that their pastime is garbage is nothing more than a pointless insult.

Ah. Descriptions, descriptions.

How to describe Rider without just calling her that 'purple-haired woman with cloth over her eyes'.

Tryin' to be closer to legend here but too lazy to go and get a description(s) of her (human) appearance to base my own upon.

So I went to ancient eu (great site by the way) and while reading about her got to:

... accordingly, Ovid relates that the once beautiful mortal was punished by Athena with a hideous appearance and loathsome snakes for hair for having been raped in Athena's temple by Poseidon.

I knew the Greek Gods and Goddesses were all assholes, but sheesh.

Incidentally, in the event of planned arson, it's stupid to send students moving in big groups, and then to assemble them in a cramped location.

This means:

1. You have multiple students contained in the same area, with insufficient exits for hasty egress.

2. Students are packed in tight groups, making them more vulnerable to structural collapse, or worse.

3. Everyone gets really noisy and upset because they have to wait and do nothing. A mere annoyance, this one.

Beyond all others she
was famed for beauty, and the envious hope
of many suitors. Words would fail to tell
the glory of her hair, most wonderful
of all her charms—A friend declared to me
he saw its lovely splendour. Fame declares
the Sovereign of the Sea attained her love
in chaste Minerva's temple. While enraged
she turned her head away and held her shield
before her eyes. To punish that great crime
minerva changed the Gorgon's splendid hair
to serpents horrible. And now to strike
her foes with fear, she wears upon her breast
those awful vipers—creatures of her rage.

So it's still about the hair huh. I think I'll go with her hair being beautiful shade of purple that also holds something darker in its roots. Maybe compare her hair to a veronica plant. A lovely plant that can also be an unwanted guest in your garden.

Or something.

funny you mention that because:

Simonides Fragment 555 (Athenaios 490e-f) – Mother and aunts to Hermes; hair colour
It is rightly given by Hermes, lord of the games,
Son of mountain Maias with her ever-moving eyes:
Atlas fathered her, outstanding for her beautiful body
Among his dear violet-haired* daughters, who are called
The heavenly Peleiades.
*The way the Greeks use colour descriptions can be a bit odd to the modern Western sense of it. The focus of the idea here is mostly on the deepness and darkness of the colour violet; the hue, while not exactly thought of as wrong, is secondary.

When I was doing Peleiades research, I asked Seika for some help and she delivered.

Yep. Yep.

I was going to have Rider gradually turn into the ugly snake lady we all know and love, and emphasizing the state of her hair throughout the course of the narrative might be just thing I'm looking for to convey that. That is, her growing hatred for a certain someone.

Yeah. There's been plenty of attempts to cover that over the years. I personally incline to exactly the same explanation as for people with violet hair, that it's about a deep hue. Others have come up with more and less interesting/plausible explanations, from the beautiful colour of the waves at sunset being extended as a descriptor for the ocean at any time (wholly possible) to generations of Greeks being blue-deficient colourblind (less so).

At what point does someone else's misfortune begin to hurt you?

Does empathy compel you to feel as bad as you think they feel, or is a matter of analogy?

So let's say that your close friend loses an arm.

Do you notice his chipper mood, and his unrelenting optimism and say "Yeah I don't have to worry, we can just have fun."

Or do you think, "I'd be a wreck if that happened to me." and judge your reaction like that?

And, additionally, how much sympathy is owed out of politeness? At the bare minimum, I suppose one should show the same level of shared pain that a stranger would, being alerted to the fact.

This, on the other hand, I think has a more mundane explanation. (Though possibly this appears elsewhere when the furor of battle isn't stirring up dust to alter the colour of the sky).

So then the Akhaians
were turned white by the cloud of dust falling from above, dust which swirled around them
and was mixed into the deep bronze heavens by the horses' hooves
as they churned it up.

There is actually a theory that the water used to dilute wine in certain places was alkaline, and so turned the solution blue (http://www.winespectator.com/drvinny/show/id/50770). This is not an idea I put much stock in.
