Bleh, haven't messed with logs in some time. If you take the log of a sum of variables, what does it look like? I can think of two different outcomes.

f(x) = ax^3 + bx^2 - c = 0 -> ax^3 + bx^2 = c

Outcome 1: log (ax^3) + log (bx^2) = log c

Outcome 2: log (ax^3 + bx^2) = log c

You can cut that number in half by taking out the yaoi pairings and (most of the) Levi x OC fics. From there just get rid of all the shitty AUs and, uh... yeah...

I had an amazing and silly dream last night.

I was visiting the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver for some reason, and was checking in at the front desk with my fiancée. Apparently there was something wrong with my passport, though, and they said they needed to do some kind of check.

I went with a dozen or so other people and got on this big metal disc inside a cylindrical elevator shaft; the disc rose with us on it, going up a number of floors to the top, where we reached an office area. Then we passed through a set of doors, and met the owner/manager of the hotel. He said we were all here for a single reason, and then I thought it must have been because my passport was nearly expired, or because my long hair and sleepy eyes could make me look like a constantly stoned hippie maybe.

He then said that we all would be able to leave... if we passed a cooking test. Yes. We were all given our own spaces to work, along with a really complicated menu guide of examples of meals we could make with the ingredients we were given: I think it was tuna, ham, salad, and potato.

There was no more explanation. We were just given a plattor of ingredients and the menus and given free reign to work.

I looked at all the many options and knew they were way beyond the scope of my cooking abilities. They were all super fancy and some of their names were in French, and I almost gave up. But then, I realized something: we were never told specifically to make something from the menu.

My cooking area was on a balcony overlooking Vancouver, and for a while I felt sick from the height, but i looked away from the skyline and felt better, focusing in the food.

So, I took the salad and the (pre-cooked, apparently) ham, tuna, and potatoes, chopped them all up and just grabbed handfuls of them and put them on a serving plate. When that was dome I brought the plate to the manager for assessment; a few other people were sitting around as if they'd finished first or were maybe waiting their turns. Everyone watched me intently, and I revealed to the manager my shoddy pile of ingredients.

After a few moments, he smiled and handed me a paper which said at the top: 100%. I apparently passed the cooking class due to my ability to think outside the box with the ingredients I was given. Also it apparently tly didn't taste that bad either, strangely.

With that relief, I walked past a number of other people still cooking; they had stoves and pots and everything, thinkimg and working away at actually making the food on the menus, and I was slightly tempted to show them my 100% grade, but I just left instead.

I took the same metal shaft elevator down, and accidentally took it down to the wrong floor, where I found a dodgy backstreets place with cobblestone paths and columns. I was briefly chased by a steampunk motorbike robot with a Gatling gun on its back, but was saved by a friendly Marxist in a labcoat and returned to the hotel. Then I woke up.

I love having dreams like these, they're just bizarre.

- - - Updated - - -

Also being in lit class and saying I've read no books over the holidays made me feel bad. A lot of people said pulpy books like the hunger games though so that's not too bad. 12% of the marks on 1 exam are for references to other texts so I'm gonna have to buy some books that the teacher recommends and read them. Speaking of, I was looking up various ways of death by burning and I remember reading about György Dózsa's execution somewhere when I stumbled across it. "Bound to a glowing iron throne and a likewise hot iron crown was placed on his head and a sceptor in his hand, he was roasted to death as those of his rebellion were sent before him and cut to pieces in the mock of a king." Well, then.

Let's see...

Death by having molten gold/lead poured down the throat/ears was also quite popular, I hear.

You know those machines they use to stress test mechanical joints and hinges and stuff?

for example

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d3Zj_8blbA

how do they stress test those machines?

do they have another machine that stress tests them?

I mean, a stress test machine needs to last longer than the product they're testing right?

I guess they could just test how many tests it can run? But then do they just hope it'll last long enough the first time around?

Frostyvale

If the thing being stress tested breaks first then it doesn't matter and you can look at the serviceable life of the testing machine as a non-issue.

Read the first 21 pages of mill on the floss and it was pretty good. Actually laughed out loud at some parts so it's official, I am very easily amused.

The part that feels good is when the wax is actually applied to you. The pull is like a 2 on a 1-10 pain scale.

Buried somewhere in the backing vocal mix is an even more heartfelt tribute to Mosley, with Brewis and Goodall including the words "...and a cunt!" at the close of each obit-quote verse. This isn't actually detectable but certainly nice to know it's there.
These are the things I find when our Gen News talk strays to fascism.

Drunk Drake ASMR when

Bottle clinking, crowd talking, something something the occasional fistfight/stabbing/gunshot and other ambient noises for added effect because it has to take place in a bar otherwise--

List "A"

1. I am not happy about the situation regarding venereal disease in the Division.
Since the 18 October the number of cases admitted to Field Ambulances in the Divisional area totals 44.

2. I consider that the whole question of women, V.D., and so on is one which must be handled by the regimental officer, and in particular by the C.O. The men must be spoken to quite openly and frankly, and the more senior the officer who speaks to them the better.
My view is that if a man wants to have a woman, let him do so by all means: but he must use his common sense and take the necessary precautions against infection - otherwise he becomes a casualty by his own neglect and this is helping the enemy.
Our job is to help him by providing the necessary means: he should be able to buy condoms in the unit shop and Early Treatment rooms must be available for his use.
As regards the E.T. rooms - it is no use having one room in the battalion area: there should be one room in each coy. area: the man who has a woman in a beetroot field near his coy. billet will not walk a mile to the battalion E.T. room.
If a man desires to buy his French Letter in a civil shop he should be instructed to go to a chemist shop and ask for a "Capote Anglaise".

3. I know quite well that the cases of V.D. we are getting are from local "pick ups": hence the need for French Letters and E.T. rooms.
There are in Lille a number of brothels, which are properly inspected and where the risk of infection is practically nil. These are known to the military police and any soldier who is need of horizontal refreshment would be well advised to ask a policeman for a suitable address.

4. The soldier on his part must clearly understand the penalties that are attached to V.D., and the reasons.

5. Finally, then, I wish all unit commanders to keep in touch with the V.D. problem and handle it in the way they think best.
We must face up to the problem, be perfectly frank about it, and do all we can to help the soldier in this very difficult matter.

The General was worried and very ill at ease,
He was haunted by the subject of venereal disease;
For four and forty soldiers was the tale he had to tell
Had lain among the beets and loved not wisely but too well.

It was plain that copulation was a tonic for the bored,
But the gallant British soldier was an innocent abroad;
Se 'ere he takes his pleasure with an amateur or whore,
He must learn the way from officers who've trod the path before.

No kind of doubt existed in the Major-General's head
That the men who really knew the game of love from A to Z
Were his Colonels and his Adjutants and those above the ruck
For the higher up an officer the better he can f--k

The Colonels and the Majors were not a bit dismayed,
They gave orders for the holding of a Unit Love Parade,
And the Adjutants by numbers showed exactly how it's done,
How not to be a casualty and still have lots of fun.

The Adjutants explained that 'capote' did not mean a cup,
That refreshment horizontal must be taken standing up.
They told the troops to work at Love according to the Rules,
And after digging in to take precautions with their tools.

Now the General is happy and perfectly at ease,
No longer is he troubled with venereal disease,
His problem solved, his soldiers clean (their badge is now a dove),
He has earned the cross of Venus, our General of Love.

"Cupid"

This being the 1930s, he nearly lost his career over it, for all that the alleged demeaning of his position evidently did little to harm his standing with the soldiers.
