One time a local very gruff lawyer got mad at a coworker and me for laughing in a different part of our office than one of the consultation rooms. To be fair, we rarely had the recently bereaved in our part of the operation. But honestly funeral/cemetery workers are some of the most cheerful people I've ever met. Dark humor as necessity is good for people, in theory.

Actually, around the time after my dad died I went and hung out with my landlord for the day, and we had a long talk about it. It was interesting to get a really old person's thoughts, especially when he talked about how it's a gamble to go to sleep every night.

I think I can understand a little better now how you prefer Girls, Be Ambitious! to Hikari no Senritsu.

I actually love the OP to Sora no Woto because it's super Mamoru Kanbe, from the musical choice to the fact that - of course - he references Gustav Klimt yet again. It's just that I feel like Hikari no Senritsu, lyrically, is doing something similar to Servante du Feu except just not as good because the latter stylistically fits the series better. Girls, Be Ambitious! is nice because it's fuwafuwa and I like fuwafuwa things but if you pay attention to the lyrics... they're actually a little bit depressing, and tie into the story quite well for something you might just pass off as another peppy anime ED.

True, maybe it would've been better as an OP rather than an ED - but then again, the relative seriousness of HnS works well to set the real tone of the series; it's not like it's Madoka which sort of tries to make you think it's all a nice happy anime, since Sora no Woto deals in equal shades of emotion. I can't agree that Kalafina is really fitting here, though. The style is almost good, but I'm sure the main series composer could've written something similarly orchestral but overall more appropriate. Unfortunately, here we have to be on opposite sides of the Kalafina fence.

Semi-related, but it's actually fascinating to me to look at Sora no Woto and pick out which elements are clearly influenced by Mamoru Kanbe as the director and which are typical of Hiroyuki Yoshino as the writer. In hindsight, I'm quite glad that Kanbe managed to retain most of the creative control of the series; Yoshino... doesn't exactly have a sterling record, and looking at other projects he's done, I'm incredibly relieved he didn't have more sway over the anime than he ultimately did.
