Intuition, maybe, like how you feel something is wrong rather than know exactly what will happen. Except in this case there's more of a grounded basis for those bad feelings. I think most stories that deal with multiple timelines generally wave it away as there being one "main" timeline, but we can suppose that's a bit too convenient. Part of it would depend on whether this person suddenly gained the ability to see the future, or if they were born with it.
