Just got back from an anime convention where 2 professional wrestlers won a game of Mario Party and then ripped off their shirts and started dancing around. It's been a weird night.

Dream Review

Then it highlighted and zoomed in on one particular state, which I verbally identified as Missouri - but it wasn't where Missouri is (the position seemed to be closer to Tennessee/northern Mississippi & Alabama) nor was it shaped like Missouri (it was roughly square but irregular, similar to Kansas).

The funniest part of this dream. I'm not sure why, but I think it's that you have a clear enough, conscious grasp of the geography of the United States for this to be a problem to you upon waking. (A problem some people, even natives of the United States, may not have.) Maybe it was symbolic and Missouri sounds most like "misery."

Their voices carried a long way. I came to understand that they were Native Americans, and they seemed obsessed with the idea that I was attempting to cross a certain 'road', despite the fact that I couldn't see any roads anywhere around there.

A third voice, not a narrator but something like an interested third party, interjected and said something like, "You see, they've marked the road with their sign. Two sticks. You can't just cross it." That was the only thing he said.

Harmful culture stereotypes of wisdom or folly, hm.

The only thing I coherently remember the Native Americans saying was "My son is the Horatio Caine of (? something, it seemed to be related to weapons, it seemed to be a kind of threat)!" Nothing else happened after that. Then I woke up.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHH.

Nothing can describe the sense of frustration and helplessness when you're trapped in a situation beyond your control.

I need a drink.
I understand this too much... too much relies on others and the fear of being lied to is way too real.
So afraid of being back-stabbed. Kind of want to confront but it will make things worse if its in my head.

Fingerprick test sounds worse than a normal blood test because you're going to be touching stuff a lot and it sounds like it would be irritating / painful.

jfc first semester at university sucked because it lasted forever, then I had only about twenty days of rest before the second semester started. It was barely enough to catch up on my lost sleep, and now it's lost again after just one week. The saving grace is that I got accepted into that project I applied for.

Tokyo

Literally too big to name anything specific esp cause I spent my entire time in Akiba and Club Sega Shinjuku.

Kyoto

Go to Kiyomizu, and make sure to go down Gion at least once. There's an arcade called A-cho down near Gion with a super lively Melty community, but Gion is also lined with some nice places to eat. If you're in the Kyoto area it's well worth a trip down to Uji to check out KyoAni's shop, if you care for any of their titles. It might be a 'touristy' part of Kyoto but absolutely do not miss a chance to go to Arashiyama. It's 100% worth it. If you go to Yasaka shrine and you want something to eat and like udon make a trip to Yamamotomenzo, the owner of our ryokan told us about this place and when we got there at around 1pm on a weekday there was a line outside down the sidewalk to get in. We felt retarded lining up for some udon in the cold but it was actually one of the absolute best meals we had there. Super recommended. And despite being some fuckin godlike udon that shit's also just the same price as it'd be anywhere else. Magical place.

Kyoto has a lot to do honestly. It's hard to say what you should and shouldn't do. We didn't like Tenryuuji, but Arashiyama, Kiyomizu, Gion, the city around the station itself, and Uji were incredibly fun.

If you're in the area you should honestly take a trip to Nara and visit the museum, which is situated in the famous memepark with the deer who will rape you/bow to you for crackers. The museum is like, actually indescribable. Super fucking cool.

Osaka

Like Tokyo, Osaka is huge. You're a filthy weeb though so just go to Nipponbashi like the rest of us.

Kobe

Go to the bridge and stand where Gilgamesh royally fucked Saber up.

Also go to Kitano and see Weathercock mansion. Head out early and try to avoid coming right after the mansion has closed like we did, but also stick around until after dark cause Kitano gets lit up and is really pretty at night.

- - - Updated - - -

Also you should absolutely stop at every sweets/confectionery and sample every single thing you see because it's mad worth.

- - - Updated - - -

For the record the patrician tech is to just go to Touhoku and visit tiny ass villages where foreigners never go and get stared at all day long.

Arriving in Tokyo, visiting Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Kobe, Hiroshima, Nagoya (off the top of my head).
Hello from Tokyo. I sadly have not been to most of the places you listed, but I'll add what I can.

As Spinach said, Tokyo is too big to rec anything without knowing what you would like.
Akihabara is nice because Animate and Toranoana and random figure stores and things. The maids on the street advertising their cafe is a strange sight. (I personally rec Schatzkiste (http://schatz-kiste.net/), if you like maids that aren't as ridiculous. Very quiet, nice place to sit and have tea for a moment.)
Akihabara is also great for recognizing sights you see in anime that took place there, like Oreimo or Stens;gate.

The other otaku cities are Nakano and Ikebukuro.
Nakano also has some old game/figure/dojin shops on the north side of the station, Nakano Broadway (http://www.nbw.jp/html/about.html#!en). Has a different atmosphere from Akihabara.
Ikebukuro is famous for having otaku content targeted at women. Like butler cafes.

Can I say "Hyogo (prefecture) is where Kobe (city) is" without sounding too mean?
If you're going to other parts of Hyogo too, I'll cautiously rec Himeji castle. I hear other castles, like Osaka and Nagoya, have elevators and relatively modern interior that makes them just glorified buildings that look like castles, but Himeji castle is preserved rather well, with minor additions like rails on stairs to keep visitors safer.
They finished a big repair a few years ago, so things may be different from when I last went.
If you like wagashi, a local one called Tamatsubaki is even liked by locals, not just for souvenir purposes.

My sister went to Hiroshima on a school trip. She said Miyajima/Itsukushima Shrine was really nice, though this is really basic so you probably know anyway.
If you're going to the nuclear bomb related places in Hiroshima, this manga based on the author's grandmother's experience (http://sasurai.o.oo7.jp/2/G_sobo_En.html) might add to your visit.

Edit: there probably is someone writing the same info in English somewhere too, but this tweet has a handy map attached for TM related places (https://twitter.com/blue_glass_arke/status/434657844177031169)

Spinach is so thorough, I feel mine is very poor compared to his. Feel free to ask questions if anything is unclear. I hope you enjoy your stay!

It kind of is. But not very accurate. Loners can still find company in fellow loners.
My group of friends is pretty much made up of introverts but a few extroverts are helpful in keeping it together.

You can always meet people like you online & meet in person & become friends. Works better if you live in the same town.

That being said, always follow safe protocols: meeting in public place, never go anywhere alone, etc etc.

Late response, but thanks both Spinach and canaki! That gives me a lot to think about (really shouldn't have asked this so late LOL)

@Spin Oh yeah, Arashiyama and Nara are definitely on the to-do list. Yamamoto menzo sounds good, it's nice having a recommendation like that.

So Weathercock Mansion is Tohsaka's place, that looks sweet. I've been looking at pictures of Kobe and WOW, I can easily see how it matches with Fate locations.

@canaki - Himeji castle sounds good. I don't mind visiting modernized/refurbished castles as well, but it would be very good to see one that is mostly preserved the way it was.

And no, it's not rude - I was just rattling off what names I could remember, I'm not surprised I made a goof :P Haven't even tried wagashi before so I'll be sure to try all sorts of different things

One issue I have with food, though - onion is hell on my digestion (low fodmap diet, onion is especially bad) - is that going to be hard to avoid when ordering food? The Japan restaurants here (heavily westernized of course) don't use much onion, but I hear in Japan itself it's quite common in everything.

oh, yeah - I don't watch a whole lot of anime that actually uses Japanese settings, but I've done some poking around and I'm definitely visiting Odaiba to see places that inspired Digimon (fuck yeah!!) and I already know a lot of the areas I've visited have inspired various Pokemon towns (hell, that's part of the appeal of Kyoto, I love Ecruteak City's aesthetic in the games).

Remember to go with shoes that are easy to take off; you need to carry your shoes while walking indoors, and you need to wear them again when you cross bits of outside space.
Unless they changed the route after the repair and my memory is useless

onion is hell on my digestion (low fodmap diet, onion is especially bad) - is that going to be hard to avoid when ordering food?
Oh, I'm 99% certain I won't be of any help on this point... having no allergies or restricted diets, I never had to ask people about ingredients and am totally clueless about just how well staff would respond to questions.
Though, I suppose you could try asking. Is it only onion that is serious? Hopefully the waiter is aware of any hidden ones too.
I tried looking up how people live on a low FODMAP diet in Japan, but just looking at the table of "common dishes not to eat" looks quite inconvenient. Most people that came up in search results seem to say "it's nearly impossible to eat out", or they're experienced enough to know the exact dishes they need to avoid.

Onion is a basis in most cooking across the planet, Japan included

Don't get food that comes in rice bowls (gyudon, oyakodon, etc), Ramen will be risky (stock will sometimes but not always have onion). Curry has onion usually.

I guess you're going to be mostly stuck with grilled dishes and sushi. Try out some yakiniku IMO since you grill that shit yourself and can just leave out the onion.

Stuff from local news: animal rescue team received a strange call from a country woman - she complained about "a dinosaur who had been living at her backyard for several weeks, trampled her garden and had eaten all the zucchinis she'd grown". They were surprised about the amount of detail in dinosaur's description and decided to investigate. They arrived at her place and found a huge iguana that apparently used to be an exotic pet, but then got lost or escaped.

Hmm... to go hang out with normies or not.... hmm....

Always hang out with normies when you can. Eventually you'll fool everyone into thinking you're normie, including yourself, end up in a committed relationship, start a family and then hang yourself in the garage in a decade or two.

Or you'll turn out to actually be normie and be happy. It's worth the risk I think.

Normie life not for me. Could have spent that time watching anime & Steven Universe.

On a side note, almost invited Spin to my bday party instead of my friend. Kind of forgot I had that....

Kinda sad that that anthology format didn't pan out, sounded like the best of both worlds in regards to giving new viewers the DRAMA and serial storytelling they want nowadays while giving the neckbeard faction like me the cool closed sci-fi-short-story-esque miniplots.

It took the reboot 1 mediocre and one bad movie to hit a high note and ENT like 4 Seasons so I hope it survives until it gets good.

Watch Seasons 1 and 2 and part of 3 but stop after the events of the Maelstrom I think. Season 4 and late season 3 dips sharply in BSG, which is sad.

Next Gen is my clear favorite, TOS nowadays can only be memewatched, it aged terribly even in the "great" episodes.

But Voyager is better than its reputation (imo actually the best cast with the exception of Kes and Neelix), DS9 is a good entry point if you want people that can only watch HBO style serial drama storytelling to watch a Star Trek series and ENT has...the best costume design.

every debate about its actual quality is usually immediately slapped down by LUL THRESHOLD as if the other shows didnt have shitty episodes

Scorpion and Equinox can without a doubt play with the big boys.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing??

Well, anyhow, Enterprise was the one on TV most, and my parents watched it a lot along with Stargate, so it was what I ended up being exposed to most/first.
