I swear to god, if I hear Foreplay Slut say "Warning, do not enter this game if you are under the age of eighteen," one... more... time...

(It's really just my name for that voice, and I can't tell if it's just a modulation of a dude, but whatever the case I will find them, and I will fill their place of residence from floor to ceiling with snakes! Snakes covered in vaseline to make them slimy! Or, to save on postage, I'll just sit here and gripe noisily behind my computer screen where no one can hear, but dear god that voice is fucking intolerable!)

Or I could just paraphrase all of that: https://st.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/crash.gif

so going through old cartoons from the early-mid 2000s and found clone high (2002 canadian-american adult cartoon collab about historical figures as high school students). i don't remember it very well, but i recognize some of the songs and characters...

like gandhi who is actually a clone of gary colemon and not gandhi.... anyway -- the soundtrack is full of indie songs and teen angst and yeah:

Also, Jack Black's twenty minute rock opera.

What's stopping you from wearing the prettiest ribbon you want?
I firmly believe men (or anyone of any gender) wearing what they want to wear should be okay. (This reminded me of this (http://www.huffingtonpost.jp/2017/10/28/blurorange_a_23259073/))

Nice tiara!
This is why I never cut my hair too much, I don't want to find out short hair is inconvenient.
Hopefully your hair grows back soon enough to satisfy your ribbon needs.

Sadly I don't think I'll be growing it out again unless certain people change their opinions. I think Lian has a picture of me with a ribbon in my (short) hair but I'm not so sure it looks good. Uguu

Your desire for the prettiest ribbon isn't strong enough.
Hasn't anime taught you anything?
Hair is never too short for the prettiest ribbon.

Edit:
But if it bothers you that much, you can always buy clip on hair extensions. Or even a wig so you can wear the ribbon....

Also, I'll be glad to not play bumper cars again for a very long time....

How best to eat turkey - a study by Bird of Hermes.

Step one, have a full christmas/thanksgiving/whatever dinner in front of you.

Step two, cut a small bit off each type of food (parsnip, cranberry, turkey, roast potatoes, etc)

Step three, place it all onto a fork/spoon and shove it into your mouth

Step four, reach Perfect Bite as you taste every complementary flavour at once

"Carthage Must Be Destroyed" by Richard Miles is a great history on Carthage. It doesn't strictly cover only Hannibal, and gives an account of the whole timeline of Carthage, but the section on Punic War 2 is very extensive and in particular goes into a lot of detail into Hannibal's propaganda war against Rome and the cultural context of the war in general. There's also Gerhard Herm's "The Phoenicians" which is older and somewhat drier but has oodles of details on Phoenician/Carthaginian culture, along with history.

To think there's a book using that very same phrase. This too is a coincidence. While I've been perusing Hannibal's biography specifically, there were indeed moments where I was wondering what is Carthage doing during Hannibel's brave march in Italy i.e like how they resupplied Hannibal once and only once during all the years he's been in Italy or why did they refuse to send support during Battle of Zama. Your recommendation sounds solid so I'm gonna get those books when the chance arise.

Since the Punic War intricately involved Roman, I'm also juggling it with Roman stuffs. Though I somehow ended up reading about Caesar....(Well, a TED video imparted me that he was a super great dude so great he got stabbed to death by 60 persons or so out of corrupt intent and fear)

With Carthaginian politics and history, it's important to remember that, like Rome, it was a republic. Hannibal's family, the Barcids, were one of a few major political dynasties at the time, though generally considered lesser in stature compared to the Hannonids and Magonids. That changed when Hamilcar, after the first Punic War, decided to head out on an expedition and carve out some land in Spain. This territory was immensely rich, though it was technically Carthaginian territory, even though everyone knew it was sort of a Barcid client kingdom. They controlled their new Spanish territories and their riches, and it was these resources Hannibal used in his invasion of Italy. To the Carthaginian, Hannibal's war wasn't *their* war - it was just a typical dynastic power grab that, like others, they believed they could distance themselves from. Unfortunately, this meant they believed the Romans had a full understanding of Carthaginian internal politics, when they very much did not. The Romans saw the war as being Carthage vs. them, which it technically was, but not to the Carthaginian themselves. To the other political dynasties, Hannibal's war was in a way actually a perfect opportunity: if they distanced themselves as much as possible from the conflict and didn't support Hannibal they wouldn't be involved in it and couldn't be blamed, and Rome would take care of the very troublesome Barcid family. After all, at this point the Magonids and Hannonids were very much in favour of peace with Rome: war was very expensive, especially since their Mediterranean trade would be naturally disadvantaged by another maritime war. If they had their way, they would continue expanding in Africa and develop further trade there and leave Rome to her business.

By the time the Romans landed on African soil, it was too late: the war, they realized, was against them and the Romans had never had any thought they were dealing with an unwanted individual's unsanctioned campaign. The Romans and their allies had won before the Carthaginian even knew they were at truly at war.

Hannibal's hope, on the other hand, was that his victories in Italy would spur the other dynasties to support him. This sort of worked at first, especially after Cannae, but the Carthaginian were always wary of supporting him too much and were very conscious of appearing to the Romans as complicit aggressors. Maybe if they'd been more decisive with helping the Barcids, we would be speaking very different languages today.

That was an interesting read. So if I got this right Carthage basically had different objectives in mind. Coupled from my readings, it seems her objectives was to reconquer the regions that was taken by Romans in the First Punic War while turning Hannibal as a sort of an expendable pawn to stave off the Roman legions stationed in Italy. While OTOH, Hannibal thought they could actually take down Rome, which Carthage didn't believe to be achievable. It's also interesting to note that he seemed to know that he wouldn't be able to win the Battle of Zama due to that premise. The whole Romans thinking Hannibal=Carthage was intriguing as ironically Hannibal was betrayed by Carthage in a sense. I guess Carthage really let the chance slip out of her palm.

All of this really accentuates Hannibal's bravery and guts from what I had in mind.

Yeah, there are lots of misconceptions surrounding the Second Punic War as a whole, and it was a very complex conflict overall. For a long while I've considered the idea that Zama was something of a fixed match, so to speak - the place and time determined (and, before the battle, Hannibal and Scipio even met each other) and in order to prevent further devastation to Carthage, Hannibal intentionally lost. It's an out there theory, of course. We'll probably never know since documentation of the wars is sadly scarce.

For a similar historical figure, you can look into Mithradates the Great, who had ambitions much like Hannibal. Unlike Hannibal, though, he was utterly incompetent as a strategist and couldn't win on the battlefield to save his life despite having vast resources and numerous allies at his disposal. "The Poison King" by Adrienne Mayor is a good read up on him.

I don't know the situation but you should just ask/express your concerns to the person themselves. It is counter-intuitive & can be a risk but talking things out works better than asking total strangers online. The brain has a tendency to look for problems that aren't there & you can make things worse.

It has worked much better for me to just ask/talk; talking & laughing about it works better than stressing & worrying for weeks.

And in my opinion, you are probably looking too much into it.

[Edit: Oh, you're in Japan? My advice is might not relevant because that might be too forward unless you can ask it in a way that's also culturally acceptable.]

Gl❀w

Nobody starts with 10,000

You start with two. And then you need another two for a few days. And then you have to open some other pages but you can’t lose the exact spot you were on, so you just grab a few fresh ones. And then you’ve formed emotional attachments to the original ones so you can’t close them even when you’ve finally admitted you aren’t even using them. But you still need the new ones for a bit longer so you open even more when you have other matters to attend to. Pretty soon you’ve created a tab family and you just don’t have the heart to abandon them. And so it goes.

I'm not drinking coffee at all. For years.

Yet I sleep at 10 pm and wake up at 2 - 4 am with only occasional yawns here and there.

Only the bright light wakes me up.

Am I a loser?

On Firefox Quantum...

Why did you take away the only reason I'm using Firefox?

The 2 addons that are actually useful for budgeting my data usage and downloading fast are gone with this new version.

Been wanting to downgrade to ESR now that I think about it to get those addons working again.

Your replacements are actually making it worse for my computer usage. =.=

And on tab browsing.

Guess I'm the weakest link as I only open two tabs at a time.

You know how café au lait is coffee with some milk added? I imagine he basically just did the opposite. That's a common beverage here in Brazil.

The opposite would be a Nes or similar, which is trace amounts coffee, buttload of flavoring and buttload of sugar made with milk or hot water. My fav.

Baudelaire's "You'd Sleep With Anyone" shocked the hell out of me. Looking it up, apparently translations had to spice it up to maintain the same kind of transgressive feel it would have had for its time for a modern audience.

you wanna know how I know management doesnt reeeeeeeeally pay attention to employee habits?

I just got low censused. Me who never takes vacation days and has PTO coming out of my ass. Basically management just called me to let me know they would take it as a favor if instead of going to work they could pay me to have a few drinks tonight and enjoy thanksgiving dinner with the family instead of warming up left overs.

...preeeeeeety sure thats not how it looked in their mind's when they asked.

Sorry to hear that, but if you have a job, it's better than that one.

I passed the board exam, and here I am still finding a stable job that is connected to my profession.

In our country, "stable job connected to my profession" means 1 year of internship (that you have to pay for), lots of trainings (you pay for it too), trusted credentials (you'll pay for it also), and lots of other examinations (that you pay).

Highest job payers are call centers.
