Eh
Probably is still interesting. Plus this is Type-Moon, the company that puts canon relevant details in their fan-discs,fighting games, spin-off rpgs, and wacky crossover cafes so I withhold judgment.
It looks pretty at least from what I am finally seeing.

It's.... hm.

Well, so far, the story's been about a witch called April who opens her door once every year on April 1st, and someone comes to try and have his or her wish granted.

Or something. Bit lost at the bit where the Reader ("you") comes in.

It's a story of Witch April who was cursed by God to make all lies come true inside her room. Sad story until Fool-kun comes to save the day and said what I am about to say is a lie - everyone else died in the world outside the room and he was the last human being on the planet. He became the last person to die on the planet.

...Except it wasn't written by Nasu ><

how does it stop being a sad story when everyone dies?

Forgot to add pre-text "what I am about to say is a lie"

But after reading over the story multiple times with my literature 101 level,
"make all lies come true inside her room" means more like, "make all wish come true"?
And the real curse is that she can only lie or stay quiet, because her word is too powerful, and she's immortal - making her lonely?
But since everyone else in the world became immortal after Fool-kun's lie she's not alone anyore?

So in other words, is this VN gonna have a similar premise from that of xXxHolic with bits of April Fools?

Mcjon01

What I got from it was that the lie was that everything he was about to say was a lie. So it was actually all true, that everyone was dead and he was the last person, but by making his lie that it was a lie true, he reversed all that so that he is dead and everyone else is alive. And immortal, I guess, since he becomes the last dead person. And April can leave her room for some reason.

Or something, I left my dictionary at home so I probably just skipped over half the story and only even bothered trying to skim through the ending.

It's just a matter of persistence in saving, and then fiddling with the html to use on another site. I was initially planning on saving and keeping every single individual response page so I could have links to what what exactly they were responding to on each other's twitters, but they ended up killing the site before I could save them all. Which, in hindsight, I'm thankful for, because that would have been a lot of work.

I think the joke this year is that there is no joke. Just a short story. Unless the joke is going to end up being the part about it being available for two weeks, but that would be pretty lame.

But really, I think they probably just wanted to do something kind of sweet and sentimental on account of the whole earthquake/tsunami thing that just happened.

Twelveseal
March 31st, 2011, 09:04 PM
Indeed. A story about granting wishes at a time when there are so many to grant. Not to mention the theme of life and death, of the end of so many lives and the sacrifice of one person for many. I'd have to say this was because of the disaster in Japan as well as the day.

also, saved the crap out of it all.

I'm gone for a month and come back to find out BL is gone. >_>

I rather enjoyed this short story. Most of the encounters are actually quite allegorical. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

The ending feels pretty open ended though.

The way I see it, when Fool-kun said he was the last human on the planet, everyone other than him was made immortal.

That way, he truly was "the last human to die".

Saradin

Page 9 fooled me, I thought it was the end. It's only now, that I'm saving everything, that I see there's more.

I guess that was a pretty good trick that got pulled on me. Inadvertently.

WingZero

I think it was like... the part about being the last person was true, just the "this is a lie" part was a lie?

Well, that line was really meant to bring a paradox into the ending which makes it so open-ended. Also during the course of all the encounters, not every line said by every person became "truth". So that brings into question which of the final lines were actually "wishes that were granted" and which were not.

I sort of just figured that the part about being the last human on Earth would be granted regardless of what came before ("this is a lie"), because it was stated early on that 'even lies will be granted (and become truth)'.

I spent a couple hours doing a proper typeset for this using the translation from /fate/, as well as doing some editing with wording here and there. I'm about to post it on wakachan now. If there are any changes you guys want made just tell me and I'll fix it up, either way enjoy~

EDIT: By the way they probably look better on Photobucket, I think the forum downscales their resolution a little, so they may appear blurry.

The biggest thing -- try getting rid of the shadow. Makes it a lot harder to read IMO.

Pages 3, 4, 5 are missing most opening quotation marks. 6 is missing one, before "Lots!"

The witch; April, died. (first and last pages) That semicolon should be a comma.

For April will grant true all such lies. (page 1) "Grant true" doesn't sound right. Try "grant", "make true", etc.

"layed" (page 3) should be "laid".

And just a small nitpick, but I'm pretty sure "April said to the man;" (page 3) shouldn't have a semicolon. Try a comma or colon.

That's all I see right now.

I usually use Mediafire.

Well, if you have a site, that'd be best. If not, stuff like mediafire, megaupload, or rapidshare work.

Dropbox is also an option, though I'm not very familiar with it.

Something about the font's just not doing it for me. The Japanese font just looks... cleaner, IMO.

Looking again, I don't think it's the shadow so much as combining shadow + italics.

Eh I still don't see a problem with it, I've asked a couple people for their opinions on it. I could lower the opacity on the shadow some more but I wouldn't be able to get around to it tonight, as it's already almost 4AM.

Alright, now that I'm looking at the full-size pages it's a lot easier to see what the problem is.

The original shadow isn't so much a dropshadow as it is a simple shadow that surrounds each letter evenly, or in other words is cast directly beneath the letters. The current dropshadow is just kind of casting a smudge above every line.

It's definitely not something that needs to be fixed, as you said, but I think it would definitely make a difference. Either way, thanks for the work you've put in here.

All I have that would be relevant to this is my facebook and my page here, heh. I doubt anyone would want to go to my FB though. Although I didn't translate it, I only transcribed it to paper to mimick the original; I'd hate to take credit for that but you can feel free to give both some anonymous guy from wakachan and I credit if you like. I really don't know why I did it to be honest, I just felt compelled to; before I even READ it.

I see, thanks again for the info. If I get the chance I'll dive back in and fix it up. When I took a look at the JP version I just noticed the shadow on the top/rightof each character, but then again it is late and I could be going insane, moreso than I already am. :P

By the way there's something that's bugging me, on page 1 "Ahh I dont want to die, I am a witch" something's not right about that. You guys think that's the right translation?

Not many other ways you can read that line, lol. I think what was going on is that they were accusing her of being a witch and torturing a confession out of her (when she wasn't one, so it was a lie that pissed God off?)

And for some reason I chuckled a little at the mention of "Vampire Princess, May."

For some reason the first thing that came to my mind was "A vampire named May? SACCHIN?"

Also, how about the afterword?
