TTRPG Role-Playing Location?

Earlier I put out an ad in the RP Ideas thread about a Nasuverse themed Call of Cthulhu role playing campaign I wanted to do. But as the players trickle in, it occurred to me that the RP sub-forum has a header that says to the effect of “in character posts only”.

Naturally the nature of a CoC campaign requires both the host and players to periodically break character in order to do the game-y aspect of asking for dice rolls and whatnot. Therefore I have to ask if it would be preferable to put the actual campaign in the Quest section of the forum even if it isn’t exactly that either.

Any advice would be appreciated since I don’t want to inconvenience a moderator and have them move it because of an oversight.

You could make an out of character thread in the OOC section for all of that if you want. Otherwise it can just be inside the game thread. As long as it's mostly a game thread that's good enough. The point of the subforum is so you can find the games, and not have it drowned out in out of character talk threads.

Alternatively, ask for dice rolls and what not in discord.

You know, though, it'd make you look like a really cool guy if you somehow managed to integrate dice into vBulletin®. In a way that won't let people just delete the dice roll.

Nah, this is only a laid back experiment to see if I can make "Play by Mail" style role playing work. For that reason it'll just be an honour system where only a player's sense of fun will prevent them from cheating their dice rolls.

The IC portion, yes.

As far as I understand it the point of the separation of the two is to have a space for the actual character roleplay, free from various out-of-character dialogues, whether those were memes, questions, or general player interactions. Before Discord (though presumably IRC channels also functioned for this purpose) these Out-of-Character threads were more active, offering a good place to find information outside of the game, such as rules, questions, background info or lore, etc. Nowadays they're not as active, though not really important to note here anyway.

From the sounds of it, your game will be mostly In-Character, and even the OoC parts can just transpire somewhere else if you think that's important to separate. I don't think any moderators, or more active BL RP players will particularly care enough how you use your own game thread.
