What is the Open Arena? Put simply, it is a battleground where individuals from all over can gather and face the challenges of the dark world. Monsters, wraiths, survivors, other players. All you have to do is be willing to step up to the plate and face the battle head-on.
Onigokko: Open Arena is a place where newcomers and players from the RP proper can fight and do battle, either competitively or as a team. Want to revisit an old enemy? Want to team up with someone currently impossible? Then this is the place for you. Hell, if you even have an idea you'd like to try out within the system, that can be done here as well. New characters and threats alike are welcome. Whether you want to participate in something I've created or take the reins yourself and GM you own event, it can be done here. Just walk on over to the Onigokko OOC, propose your idea, and get people together. The goal is simply to have quick and accessible fun.
Aside from the player inspired events and request, I've also created a number of "Challenge Battles" that can only be done here. These Challenge Battles are sorted by difficulty and contain solo and team content alike. Furthermore, in addition to creatures and adversaries seen in the main game, there are some challenges unique to this thread. Ranging from what-ifs to content cut from the game's final lore, these fights are here to test you.
Nevertheless, I'll leave you guys to it. Challenge battles will be updated regularly, with more coming as the RP and Quest progress.

Challenge Rulesets:
(Soondere)
Third Party Challenges:
Shifting Sands (RaM)
Shifting Sands — 4 to 7 Participants Something's gone nightmarishly wrong. You're still in a school building but it's not the right one. It's dilapidated and empty, and there's a pervasive sense of wrongness here. And Justin… he was just killed! What in the hell is happening?!
The Rules:
An alternate take on the events that took place at the schoolhouse at the beginning of the game. Will Lianru be alerted and see that someone manages to wake Yumiko up? Will Yumiko even be there in the first place? If she is there, will the idiot who saves her die in her place? Will Haruka still go berserk? Will the steaks you cut from the Mokku's flank be delicious? Well, that's really up to anyone who decides to try this game out.
Characters only have what they had on them at the beginning of the game when it started back in 2012, but at least you have have 20 Sanity.
Applicants:
Of Beasts and Betrayal (RaM)
Of Beasts and Betrayal — 5 to 10 Participants The thing before you may be the most lethal creature you've encountered so far since you first arrived in the Dark World. You don't even know how to describe this abomination, but what you do know is that if you don't figure something out fast, you won't live to see another perceived hour.
The Rules:
Seems like a straight-up battle with an fiendish Dark World Entity. It's very powerful, but so will you be. You will also be assigned Sanity values based on the results of several rolls of five d6s. Who gets which value will be randomized. Furthermore, your Sanity values may not be revealed. Not a good situation, but at least you know what to attack.
There's just one problem: One of you, chosen at random with the others, will have a Sanity score of 0, and have a significant boost in power. You could turn on your allies at any time. Or maybe you'll help your supposed allies anyway, but who's to say that you won't turn on them the second the first threat is dead?
Whether it's three teams or two, only one will remain standing by the end.
Escaping from the creature is an alternative route to (possible) victory, but do you really want to? After all, this grotesque hellspawn came all the way here, crawled out of a pit of fire, just to
butcher
meet
you. It's your guest if you will.
Applicants:
The Hollow Grave (RaM)
The Hollow Grave — 3 to 6 Participants You don't know how long you spent in those tunnels. It was pitch black, and you're missing two of your original number. Unfortunately, you've not found an exit; you're just in some sort of underground shelter with a few creature comforts scattered about, dilapidated, like everything else in this awful place. Someone lived here, but they're nowhere to be found. And the fact that you're still in a hole of some sort isn't exactly reassuring with your immediate predicament.
Your cursory glance around the room has revealed nothing and your only exit—so far as you can tell—is back the way you came. However, you'd prefer not to go back and attempt to fight through that horde of cadavers. If only you could lock that door, but the slot for the deadbolt has been torn out of the wall. The door can't even be closed, much less locked.
You don't know how long you have, but waiting around to find out isn't an option. You need to find a way to get above ground, or this shelter will be your tomb.
The Rules:
An escape the room sequence in the vein of Zero Escape, you've just escaped a shambling horde of cadavers, who are very, very slowly catching up to you. Fortunately, there were apparently several routes through those tunnels, and the creatures aren't chasing you so much as they're moving in your general direction. But there are a lot of them, and some will inevitably find their way to your current location. As for where that is, it seems to be some sort of underground shelter, but whoever holed up inside of it isn't here anymore. You haven't explored the whole bunker, although you can tell there can't be much more than three or four other rooms in here.
No one starts with any equipment. Everything you'll need in this scenario can be found in this godforsaken bunker.
All players start out with 25 Sanity, but that will steadily decrease the longer you're trapped. How much
will
can
you trust one another?
And of course, there's no lock on the tunnel doors, so after a certain point, you'll have to deal with between one and three cadavers staggering inside every few rounds. Other hazards may be revealed in-game as well.
Will you escape? Will the horde gradually overwhelm you?
…Or will you just turn on one another?

Red Arena: School Building
Sakaki Tetsuro, Fumi Aki
Weather: Rain & Thunder
Time Unknown (Morning)
The sound of rain. The distant booming of thunder. As the day begins, the sound of the storm can be heard beating against the old wooden walls.
It has been quite some time since you last stepped within these halls, but your memory is still clear. Knowing that this is where it all started, it would be hard for you to forget this place. Dark corridors which seem to twist and turn forever. Empty classrooms filled with nothing but dust and debris. And yet, despite there not being a soul around, the sound of the floorboards creak beneath someone's weight far, far behind you.
Nevertheless, there is nothing for you to gain here. Though you were guided to the exit before, this time you guide yourself. You aren't entirely sure. Nor do you really know how. It's just that it seems like your body remembers the way and guides you there all its own. The dreary light of day quickly comes into view and the path is made clear. But, just as your body recalls the halls, so too does it remember what lies in wait at the exit.
The head of a black creature peeks over the row of shoe lockers. Slowly, it makes its way from the leftmost wall and places itself between you and the exit. It's familiar form still unmistakable. And just as you remember it, so does it remember you.
Piercing white eyes setting their sights on you, the giant offers you a ghastly grin before leaning back and loosing a mighty roar.
School Building
Weather: Rain & Thunder
Time Unknown (Morning)
Thunder cracks.
A flash lights up the area outside the school. Light momentarily spills in through the cracks in the walls and windows, but it's not nearly enough to light up the darkness. Instead it only makes the shadows stand out more. The shadows hiding a monster. The shadows hiding the faces of the two making their way through the halls.
Something cracks.
It isn't thunder this time.
Sakaki snaps his wrist and something is flung into the locker to his left. It lands harshly, producing a sound similar to a thunder-crack, before he pulls back his arm and the lump settles around his bare shoulder. His white coat has been discarded, wrapped up into a makeshift flail around something that crunches and shifts with every step, trailing white dust behind him. He stops in his tracks and spits out something he was chewing on.
"Ho," Sakaki grunts. "It's you."
He squints at the monsters and suddenly things become simpler, clearer. Forget why and where and how: he's here to kill that thing.
It roars, and Shin grins, feeling familiar wounds burning in its presence.
Sakaki Shin carries himself like a man much younger then Sakaki Tetsuro. He slouches, squints, and sneers, standing with feet planted far apart like an old-school delinquent. He removes his right hand from his pocket and shifts the home-made flail to it, while rearing back with his left.
Something crashes.
Once more, it's not thunder.
Sakaki grunts, his fingers grabbing at a shoe locker door, and he pulls back, tearing it right off its hinges. He flips it around with his fingers until he's holding something the lid like a small shield, or an oversized pair of metal knuckles.
"Don't get in the way, Red," Shin growls, his only affirmation of the presence of the girl behind him.
"This fucker's mine!"
He roars as if to match the monster before him, and also laughs and screams, charging forward with his shield raised and the flail whirring behind him in circles. If he remembers it, then so too it must it remember him. The weak him, the defensive him, the him that couldn't so much as hurt it.
But this him is another him entirely. Sakaki Shin stopped being afraid of monsters the moment he became one himself.
First, close the distance.
Second, block the first hit.
Then, have some fun.

Aki Fumi
Weather: Rain & Thunder
Time Unknown (Morning)
“Oh my.”
It is hard to not interpret the tone as sarcastic.
Two red spots appear within the darkness behind Tetsuro Shin. Two red eyes, the color of recently spilled blood, shone with childish glee. It was evident from their glint and the grin that graced the pale face under those crimson eyes that Aki Fumi had recognized the monster before the duo.
And that she found it quite entertaining.
Her body shook slightly, and the decapitated head of a monster, that she had been playing with just now, was thrown aside, and suddenly shredded into nothing. A beautiful crimson hair, tied haphazardly in many tails, floated around her, making Fumi look as if she was wreathed in blood. The shredded clothing wrapped around her figure, floating around in the supernatural wind only helped to reinforce the impression of a monster stalking the dark halls of the haunted school.
“Really, what a coincidence, and I was just thinking of looking for you, to have some fun~!” Childish glee was noticeable in her tone as she spoke, but that only helped to confer a sort of threatening and chilling bite to her words.
Suddenly, a colorless, evil aura sprung up from Aki as her eyes gleamed once again, locking down the entire hall. The aura of a beast, of a monster, a nightmare borne of mankind’s darkest nightmares. The aura of a demon, out to hunt.
Intimidation Effect 2 used on Mephist
“Don’t get in the way, Red, this fucker’s mine!” Aki imitated Tetsuro’s tone and posture almost to perfection, mocking him with a half-lidded gaze as she watched him initiate his mad charge towards Mephist.
“Right back at you.” Suddenly, Aki’s smile disappeared completely as her eyes sharpened and the wind around her suddenly flowed with intensity, merging into supernatural currents that went forwards, altering the entirety of the airflow inside the hall, locking it to the redhead’s whims. “Don’t get in my way. I just want to make something go crunch!”
Suddenly, at a speed faster than what anyone could react to, an explosion could be almost heard in mid-air, and then the wind coalesced around Mephist at breakneck speeds, shaking the entire space around him as if it was some sort of very localized and small earthquake, with the sole purpose of smacking it down and stunning it.
Used Airquake v1 on Mephist. Used Air Burst on Airquake, Total Speed = 24
“Hey, idiot!” Aki’s voice suddenly reached from behind Tetsuro, straight to his ears thanks to a little trick of the wind. “Hit it now!”
Wise up!

Demonic Aura – Intimidation
A Demonic Aura that causes intimidation when activated. The ability to always be “the biggest monster” or “the bigger threat”, no matter what it is being faced. The aura itself is always activated in a passive form that boost slightly defense, and it is “activated” when its intensity goes up. Upon activation, Crimson becomes able to control a “sense of intimidation” that she can infuse on a target of her choice, acting as an high level mental interference. Furthermore, when activated, the aura also enhances her defenses to an higher level. Maintaining the aura does strain her physically.
[Effect 1. Perk. Passive. Level 1 Demonic Ability. A natural ability to appear as a bigger threat to those with weak wills or little strength of mind. Actively dissuades such individuals from acting hostile towards Aki and grants slight bonuses to negotiations, requests, and ploys. Does not overrule Presence.]
[Effect 2. Special Ability. Level 1 Demonic Ability. Intensifying the demonic aura applies pressure to those within its range of effect. As a result, physical parameters are reduced by two each and moderate negative modifiers are applied to reactionary actions and abilities. This skill can be combated by adequate mental ability and/or divine protection. Cost 5 MP and 10 VP per turn active. Increases rate of exhaustion while active.]
Demonic Surge – Airspace
The ability to manipulate the “airspace” around the body by extending one’s presence in an area. The air, infused with said presence, can be manipulated to various extents.
Use 3 (Air Burst):
[Special Ability. Can increase up to two stats by 4 points a each for 1 turn. Cost 15 MP per stat increase.]
Airquake V.1
[Special Magical Attack. Deals normal magical damage to a single target and stuns it for 1 turn. Spell speed = 20. Cost 10 MP.]
Damage = Stun No Damage = Chance for Stun

Sakaki Shin

Weather: Rain & Thunder
Time Unknown (Morning)
"Only an idiot calls people idiots, idiot!"
It's ruined. The moment that sickly air starts twisting, Shin knows his pure joy has already been tainted.
The joy of suffering, and inflicting suffering in return. Now that the uppity bitch has interfered, there's nothing to do but roll with it.
It doesn't even take a second. He tosses away his shield, his pretense of defense, and surges forward. In a split second the old tactic is discarded. The spinning flail goes from deterrent to threat. Muscles creak as a planned counter becomes an all out attack, performed as if the moment afterwards doesn't exist at all.
It's not like he's listening to her or anything. There's only one woman - two now - that could change Shin's mind, and this girl is neither of them. It's just that Shin remembers what happened the last time the red girl used that wind, and...
Well, he can't help but take advantage of an opening, even if it's being fed to him by a demon's hand.
