The good news is I gather this is looking less likely based on latest projections
the bad news said projections list an extremely likely path careening through Miami. Which has money and the better drainage/construction that comes with said money, but it's also heavily populated and will cost a fortune to rebuild if the hurricane strips the whole beach to the bedrock.
Here's Irma's predicted path, for reference

apparently it has surpassed the theoretical upper limit of the category system, also?
said republicans, no really global warming is a myth we swear
"It's an insult to the victims' memories to politicize this terrible tragedy by attempting to shift the discussion toward so-called climate change when what we should be focusing on is blah blah blah"
wait let me throw a fucking snowball on the ground
I want every Fox News reporter and Republican members of Congress that spout global warming is bullshit as we get a hurricane that exceeds the ranking system to die as painfully as possible via drowning
You can't exceed the ranking system, Cat 5 goes from 157mph to infinity
Might have to add a new category eventually though once 200mph superstorms are commonplace
The category system is actually meant to measure destructive potential so there'd never be a 6 because a Cat 5 hurricane is already total destruction for all practical purposes. However, Irma has broken the traditional upper speed limit of cat 5 and is one of the most powerful Atlantic storms on record.
The most powerful storm in the open Atlantic, though there have been stronger storms in the Caribbean.

I just hope it goes down categories fast enough before getting far enough in middle Florida.

Disaster strikes from the earth as well as the skies
Also lol at the stories of tourists whining about being trapped by Irma due to grounded planes. Well what did you expect, visiting the Caribbean at the height of the hurricane season?
How is that surprising. Trump is basically the incarnated concept of borrowing money to pay for things you don't need and can't afford. What shocks me is that people thought he would want to do anything else.
