Nah, it's still a switchblade in every version of the manga, it looks pretty western actually. I don't think it's actually worth much, it's probably just a cheap switchblade and Kiri just wrote his name on it.

It's certainly not very old though, since don't think that there is a long tradition of switchblades in Japan, probably made in Kiris lifetime.

How do Nanaya Shiki's Pure Eyes work? Are they useful when fighting?

His eyes allow him to see things that "normally cannot be seen", such as Akiha's Origami. They were also probably the basis of his Mystic Eyes of Death Perception.

If you really think about it, the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception are closer in function to Pure Eyes than Mystic Eyes.

The MEoDP allow him to see the "weak points", as you say.
The Jougan are different, they just allow him to see things. So Jougan + MEoDP allow him to see and kill Origami.
