Machines do not lose their worth when a newer model appears.
Their worth (life) ends when humans can no longer bear that purity.
that's some crazy buffalo bill stuff right there

Guess what? A lot of cultures have an underworld. Herk had to venture to one to become a god, Scathach is the guardian to a similar place, and if you want to get technical even Kayneth conjured up some traps to send intruders to, presumably, a Japanese underworld, since he was in Japan at the time. There be all kinds of places for dead people. Please refer to FGO and all the ghost types you have to fight.
And as for origin and reincarnation, please refer to Kara no Kyoukai for more information.
Localizationing stuff
Also underworlds only existed for real in the age of the gods.
No, I'm pretty sure they still exist in Japan right now too.
You know, the special place.
For the special people.

To be fair, the quote just clarified that in one particular case the "corporeal souls" were what was left behind, not what happened to the "ethereal souls" nor whether that's a representative sample of afterlives in general. I see what you mean, though.
So, if the mental aspect is recycled after death then I guess the "ghost" left behind is basically just a bodily echo acting out their actions from life, without any true consciousness? Kind of voids out the entire purpose of an afterlife mythologically speaking to have them be populated by glorified Philosophical Zombies, but what can you do?
The moon already copy and pasted you the moment you were even conceived, so the "concept" of that person is already stored away as it is.
Is it possible that Musashi comes from Prototype-verse?
i don't think so, Musashi world was pruned and while Proto-verse has an Ax-crazy zombie loli who's obsessed on summoning the Beast of Revelation there's no indiction that it has been pruned yet. It probably help if we knew when her world was pruned to come up with a definite answer, or at least to my knowledge.
