IIRC there's an interview somewhere that mentions that Shirou beating Gil is the culmination of a bunch of coincidences gone right - basically it's a one in a million thing, even if he has UBW. Can't for the life of me remember where that was, though...

And don't forget Shirou is just a 16 years old kid with 0 experience. It's just right he only has 1/1M chances of beating him if Gil was serious.
So we shouldn't take what Nasu said for Archer too even if obviously Gil would have won if he went seriously. I just want to say in that case Archer would have been harder to deal with, just like any others servants in fact, yeah UBW can't hit as hard as GoB, yeah his skills are just the peak of normal human beings and not heroes but please just don't give the feelings you're underestimating him too much and look at him like a trash who can't even win without plot-shield...

Yeah, when he dies in FSN that's okay, when he wins some of his fights properly in EXTRA (Oh but he won properly more than "three" times), that's not canon even if Nasu wrote it and chose those characters wtf, blabla that's bullshit blablabla... I'm sick of this hypocrisy...

He took like six lives off of freaking Hercules. That's sure as heck not weak by any stretch of the imagination. (And it doesn't matter that the feat was off-screen, he still did it)

That said, I think it was stated somewhere EMIYA would lose against Gil simply because the latter would know to take him more seriously then regular Shirou.

Whether one likes his feats or not doesn't affect how they should be factored into his power-level. Otherwise I could just say I "don't like" UBW being weaker then the Gate in the first place...
