Japanese fandoms as a whole don’t put nearly as much emphasis on canon as Westerners do, so it’s not always so cut and dry. As far as the FSN manga is concerned, it’s an adaptation of the primary work with relatively little input from the original author, so obviously anything that contradicts FSN proper you can safely ignore, and anything manga-exclusive that doesn’t explicitly contradict anything else exists in a state of “maybe it’ll show up again if one of TM’s main writers saw it and liked it.”

is there anything weird enough that happen in the FSN manga to be non-canon besides the character flashbacks like Kotomine telling Shinji how to become a proxy master rather than Zouken, or Shinji bullying people for picking on Sakura andr Kuzuki killing the order assasins that come after him for not killing himself?

The spell works on the space around Saber, not on Saber herself

    Unless the manga states otherwise

In which case, dont assume it to be canon

I've always wondered why Japanese fandoms are less concerned with canon? What cultural thing could it be?

The obsession with canon is awful and absolute trash. And who wants to strive for that?

Lack of Marvel and DC comics in their formative years?

Wouldn't that have the opposite effect, considering how many retcons, reboots, and sidestories there are? This is coming from someone who hasn't really read those, so do correct me if I'm wrong.

  17. #140797
Youre not going to get retcons if there isnt a canon tho

Certainly true, but I would have thought with all of them that have happened over the years, fans would have stopped caring.

I see. There must be something deeper then as to why Western fans care more about canon then their Japanese counter parts.
