While I see the read about it being the moon itself given its likening to a dead wasteland, I do think there being an actual kingdom too works better.
well, if we go with CM being the actual heart of the moon, like Gaia for earth, then its kingdom could refer to the ecosystem and not a society
although having only seen the translated version of TALE, i dunno how literal you have to interpret that part about "The people of the moon came down to live"
Considering the Millenium Castle came from CM, also called the Castle of the Moon, then it's likely there was some kingdom on the moon. I don't see why not.
It certainly looks like a castle for an alien civilization.
