Has anyone wondered if Benkei's splitting into seven clones NP is at all related to the legend of Taira No Masakado and his seven body-doubles?
It strikes me as surprisingly similar, and while there's no obvious link between their legends, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some shared weird Buddhist stuff going on.

I'm asking because A: it's seven clones in particular (a seemingly arbitrary number) and B: the NP has no obvious basis in Benkei's own legend so I'm curious about where else it could've come from. Also they're both Japanese heroes, while Wukong (who does admittedly have a "splitting into clones" ability in his legend) is Chinese. And I was just asking a simple question; there's no need to get weirdly sarcastic all of a sudden.
Speaking of Benkei... If he's not THE Benkei, then who is he? Is he also a figure from Japanese History, folklore or mythology?

I just checked Benkei's profile again and I couldn't find any explanation for why he has the "splitting into clones" NP (in fact, as far as I know GO makes no mention of it at all). Where did you read this?
