    Late reply is late:

I would, but I've been sucked into Kamidori and cannot escape. Blame Zero, it's his fault. :/

    Damn man.

Be snatched from first place because someone got a yakuman in the last hand of the game. Damn.

    At least you were playing people who knew how to play. The only times I get yakuman hands are when I'm trying to teach people how to play. I end up passing them up, so that I don't discourage them from playing by me going, "oh, btw, this is a special case that almost never happens, but yeah, give me all of your points." every. fucking. time. the worst was a ryuuiisou suuankou tanki. turn 7. dealer. =____=;

    Also, in regards to Marth, it was half a ploy to see how much of his already lacking hdd space i could get him to fill up against his will. the other half is that it is a decently fun game, but that first half of it was to see if i could get him to use up that scarce hdd space for a porn game. even if you just ctrl through the scenes so can continue game and plot. >_>;

It was Kokushi and everything seemed decided so I cannot really blame the guy for discarding a terminal. I just laughed it off really, there's no need to get mad.

That reminds me I dealt into one (Kokushi) too a few days ago. Now that think about it, the hand was pretty obvious since the beginning, the discards pretty much gave his hand away and yet I there I was all absent-minded. Spacing out can be terrifying.

It's been a long time since I posted here.

    Some mahjong activity around me:

    1. http://mahjong-league.com/. Every season = 2 months. I forgot how the +/- are adjusted here. And yes, it uses the 7447 room. (I've seen at least one of you play in there)
    2. Lots and lots of real tile play.
    3. Anime Central Mahjong (http://www.acen.org/). I hosted a mahjong tournament and presented 2 panels on the game.
    4. More anime conventions, just to play the game.
    5. Tracking mahjong groups across USA and Canada.

Slowly, but surely. This game is growing.

I don't even remember (more like lost) my old ID so I'm going with キリス this time. Not ranking as expected but it ain't that bad.

I think I played you yesterday?

    Hehe, yesh, y'did. :3

I've gone 1.5 years without ranking. Well, I did try before; but back then, accounts lock up upon reaching 6-kyu and prompting people to get paid accounts. But looks like that had been changed since then, so I started to do this ranking thing since last July. I'm curious as to how far I'll go with that.

    Hey, Guys,
I'm Ossan99 from Tokyo Japan. Moved from another thread by Crown's lead. I just test play of "Tenho""天鳳" it looks like good internet Japanese mahjong site. If you have any recommended internet Japanese mahjon site, please share your information. Currently my gaming time to use another game but if I will finished it, I am going to play with you.
Miss Jarman said viciously: 'You must reallywant your money.'
'No.' Harvey shook his head wearily. 'It's not that, honey. He wants to be Caneton. And nobody ever beat Caneton. Yet.'
I said quickly: 'Bring the car through in fifteen minutes. Unless you hear shooting. Then you can decide for yourself.'
I walked away down the bank to the right, looking for the entrance to the communication trench. I found it and turned in.

Tenhou is the predilect service we use here but Janryumon is fine too. Maybe the only downside of Janryumon is all those avatars and unnecessary flashy stuff (so 80% of what makes JRM, well JRM). You have to dowload their installer to play too but it's overall fun.

Picked the first video on youtube because why not.

Jesus Christ I cringe every time I see the dog's paw (or was it a cat claw) and all that bullshit.

the close/related tile highlighting is nice for beginners, i guess, but that 3 second decision thing is pretty limited. well, i guess that the highlighting makes personal optimization in the short time easier, but it still makes defensive playing more difficult than it needs to be. of course, that's assuming there isn't a room or setting to have a longer time per turn. also, is that bgm native to the game, or did the uploader add it? because damn, Saki music is annoying to think in.

  13. #573
The fact JRM shows your waits whenever you're going out can lead to developing bad habits too. The BGM was added by the uploader btw.

yeah, i still suggest 1000 hours of grinding on gamedesign mahjong to learn how to be decently paranoid of every discard. And only decently. once you start winning consistently against that flash, then you can start learning about player actions.

and JRM gameplay just became 40% less annoying to me. Interface and shit still piss me off, but gameplay much less annoying.

In case your curious, you can look up your Tenhou.net stats:
    http://a.pqrs.se/tenhou/ranking/

It's been broken for a while, but the programmer finally fixed it up. Enjoy.

Man, to think there are people who actually work hard to get a nice place in the ranking, while I'm just being lazy makes me feel badly casual.

Eh, it's whatever. if you really want a tenhou rank, just sit down and play for a day. careful discards and the occasional attack, making sure you avoid 4th all you really need to do. it's a pretty funny point system that doesn't really do much if you get 2nd or 3rd, shits all over you if you get 4th, and is just okay if you get 1st.

  18. #578
Well, in the regular 0000 lobby, the ranking points are at this rate:

    45 | 0 | 0 | -60

In the Jokyuu room, it's at this rate:

    60 | 15 | 0 | -60

There I find myself fighting for second (or third) more often than for 1st. This is particularly true for any time I had done something stupid in the beginning of a game. And I don't know the rates for the Tokujou or Houou room.

doesn't really matter, just play a lot and not be last place, and you'll at least not hurt your score too much. Always try to win, but don't just throw the game away when someone gets a dealer haneman out of nowhere. trying to calculate the score is just funny, since sitting at the edge of a ranking means you're prone to drop down anyways. trying to win is helpful, but avoiding 4th is more necessary.

Have you folks played 17 steps/minefield mahjong? Sadly there aren't many options yet besides that touhou doujin game.
