Dear god, this fucking bastard...... Taunts my fucking childhood.
I don't think anyone was questioning whether Araya was crazy or not.
Spoiler:
What Fate/Stay Night character are you?
Kotomine Kirei
You are Kirei. You've always been a little different from the rest. You probably have low social skills. Whatever, it's not like what they think matters anyway. Ever searching for something missing within you, you probably don't experience the same happiness as everyone else. Good and evil are just labels, you are who you are.
That's another bad cliche, imo- they can't come up with a convincing main antagonist, so they go with "He's crazy". I mean, a genuinely well-thought-out crazy character can be more compelling than any other, if their PoV is displayed well enough, but you can't have the antagonist just be cuckoo without anything for the reader to latch on to.

My Fanfics. Read 'em. Or not.McJon01: We all know that the real reason Archer would lose to Rider is because the events of his own Holy Grail War left him with a particular weakness toward "older sister" types.
Heh. Speaking of this, I recall two Highschool DxD fics where they have Raynare or Kokabiel be actual characters that develop and show motivation* instead of what you described.
*This is of course taking in the fact that the latter's was explained in an info dump of sorts. It was good enough for me to forgive it.
Over the Keel Mountains, Meets an ape with human speech. The ape asks, "What clings to you? Bear it—you cannot. Accept it—you cannot. But hidden—it is from you. Recite its name."
Let's see here... there is A Demon Among Devils, Highschool DxD: Fool of Change, and A Demon Lord's Hero.
The first two are Persona x-overs, with the first being more well known for how good it is. I believe I even saw Heroslayer put in a good review for it. Anyway, first is post-game Minato, while the second is post-P4 Golden-game Yu. While the second kind of copies the premise of the former, the author made sure to implement the differing personality Yu has in comparison to Minato's.
The last is a FSN cross that as far as I see doesn't fall into the recent clichés (IE In Flight and all that rot) concerning our favorite Faker. This is the one that puts on a really good Kokabiel, as well as addresses some of the things that have always irked me about DxD in general.

And for the record, it was Mattais who asked. They are recommendations in all but name. I shall be sure to give them the proper rec later in the appropriate threads.

It should also be noted that the latter two fics don't have that much chapters in, so take that as you will.

I thought it came across pretty differently in the scene I'm thinking of - the one where Shinji appears to die and Shirou goes very much into the self-hating despair mode. I didn't think it was sympathetic and I'm not sure it was meant to be. More like just unsettling. I'd be a little scared if someone was acting like that in front of me in real life.
O walls, you have held up so much tedious graffiti that I am amazed you have not already collapsed in ruin.
There are three big problems with the notion of "post-game Minato":
1 - It basically means an OC.
2 - Very, very few people can write a Messiah well.
3 - His presence automatically implies that everyone in the Persona universe is dead. Which, wow what a dark premise.
Ragnarok, come day of wrath

Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.
For some reason, this is reminding me of way back in the early 2000's where like half the romance fics in the dbz section on ffnet were either 'high school hijinx with Gohan and Videl' or 'Vegeta managed to get immortality on Namek and kill freeza+everyone else but bulma whom he keeps as a slave in his new empire leading to weird rapey romance'
It was weird, especially since the latter would not stop comimg up even though it's such a specific scenario

okay the latter is weird. Sounds just like something most otaku girls would write though.
she was already like "omg hes so hot" when she saw him on namek
