My Fanfics. Read 'em. Or not.McJon01: We all know that the real reason Archer would lose to Rider is because the events of his own Holy Grail War left him with a particular weakness toward "older sister" types.
It's not even really his sword. Not originally, anyway. Loki is the one who made it, and Surt stole it.
Or so I read in one source I can't quite find.

Surt's wife has something to do with the sword, too. Did Loki give it to her for safe keeping, or does he intend to convince her to steal it for him?

I think Persona says that that is surts' sword.

His stories would better without him derailing some of the characters, most prominently being Shirou. Also, there are a few glaring errors from canon that never seem to get fixed. Reading each chapter of his also presents an almost guaranteed grammatical error, somewhere in the story. Those homonyms...
I agree that he's one of the rare authors that actually got a huge amount of writing done in a ridiculously short time. He could have at least gone back and edited the old chapters, or ave gotten a beta though. He even notes his errors in his author's notes, but never bothers to go back and fix them.
Shrugs, I do the same thing when writing myself. My attention is one writing the next chapter more than editing some things in the last one.

Ok, I fear I'll DERP after asking this but... who is 'GB'?
And now I feel bad, because I've read the Poetic Edda and don't remember half of the contents related to that sword. I've got half a mind to go reread the whole thing, just for the hell of it.

Looks like we may have some Sword in the Stone, Sword of the Lake confusion going on here.
Gabriel Blessing, popular FSN fiction writer. His two big works are Hill of Swords and In Flight. Here's the author's page if you're interested. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1263379/gabriel_blessing
Character Development occurs a period of time AFTER the story has started. His Shirou hardly acted like Shirou would have, regardless of him slowly becoming Archer. IIRC, Archer only became disillusioned after he became a Counter Guardian.
I'd sort of say though that HoS Shirou really isn't him on the way to being Archer though, because Archer ended up with the chip on his shoulders after becoming a CG. He died his normal life still very Shirou-y and didn't even regret it when the people he saved turned on him.
...And sniped.

We don't know anything about Archer's life, but we do know GB's Shirou still acted like Shirou would have- he went back to get Tabitha, even at a point when Archer probably would've given her up. You can't really have a Shirou who's lasted at least few years between the end of FSN and the story, and have him stay exactly the same, even if he's just been hanging around at the magic association.
Granted, his Shirou does skew toward what I can only assume is his own attitude, but I've read works by fully published authors who've put more of their own idiotic opinions into their works than he has.
