Things that annoy you in fanfiction discussion

I keep wondering what people's thoughts are on here about things that crop up in Nasuverse fanfiction that may annoy or distract you. I don't want arguments or anything, but genuine "I just don't get this" or "I find this personally aggravating" or "this breaks suspension of disbelief on me completely." Neir and Keyne both brought up things like Avalon healing others in another thread, and I was wondering what everyone else thought of?


Mine's a little meta: people that assume "because I saw it in fanfiction A, it should apply to fanfiction B and/or the world in general." Specifically, GB calling Caliburn "the sword that chooses" and then people making reference to that like its the canonical title or NP ability.

But seriously. People misinterpreting a character, or what really takes the cake: derailing a character because they do not like him.

I have to say the Avalon thing you mentioned. I kinda don't like people using it as this plot hax healing artifact for people other than Shirou. Shirou's plot hax healing is Canon. >_>

Isn't it better exclude a character you dislike, instead of writing the fic in such a way as to torture that character?

Actually wanted to hear more like this anyway; stuff like character derailment is pretty standard with fanfiction in general, not Nasuverse in particular.

Yes, using Avalon to heal other people, especially if Shirou is projecting it to do it.

Also:
Sues. They suck. ALL OF THEM. That includes canon chars turned into sues.
Shoehorning characters in. If a character doesn't naturally fit, keep it the fuck out. If you don't like a character, keep them the fuck out, unless you have an actual reason for them to be in it.
Grammar and spelling, like Lianru said.
Color-ette does NOT WORK FOR RANDOM COLORS.
Homonyms. Using the wrong ones. PEAK =/= PEEK.

Canonly yes, but some people seems to like the idea of Shirou needs to heal someone. Trace Avalon... Random Magecraft that is probably out of Shirou's league to shove Traced Avalon into insert character here... Healed...

Yeah. Whether he has healing abilities remaining for his Traced version after she disappears is up to debate, as the connection is still there until Waver dismantles the Grail system ten years later or whatever, though the contract is not (like UBW).

Edit: I do that because I usually write first person Shirou perspective, and Shirou specifically calls it Tracing because of his aria...sometimes when talking I keep up like that. Always have to go back and replace "Tohsaka" with "Rin" too.

Not really, you generally have good conventions as far as I know.
But I did forget to add BAD CAPITALIZATION.
