And why the hell is there a Dragon right next to the Dragon Slayer.
And why the hell is there a Dragon right next to the Dragon Slayer.
He never actually was a dragon slayer. There was a propaganda drive when they were building up the whole "Gwyn's four great knights" thing, and they made him fight painted paper mache dragons in front of amazed villagers, like the Kim Jong dynasty do.

That's not even Ornstein, anyways. Dude's clearly human.
Ciaran's human sized as well, I don't think size is a good indicator of race in DS. Ornstein and Smough in DS1 are very different in size, Gwyn's barely bigger than a regular human, while his guards and royal guards are absofuckinglutely massive, Vendrick is ridiculously huge, but most of the giants in 2 aren't even as big as some of the regular enemies you'll face.

Makes a certain amount of sense. More sense than Ornstein actually existing there in the first place.

Books are extremely many, loaded on an oxcart the ox will sweat.

I'm thinking it's not a good idea to try and play shield less on my first proper playthrough. Also that it was a mistake to pick the Explorer Class. I'll probably have to spend a few hours to balance stats now.
the NPC summons you get for L+Z are way more useful than the ones you get for Aava.
(not that that's a particularly high bar. having summons on Aava is probably more of a liability than having them against any other fight in the game.)
(the above screenshot is of my first ever solo kill against her. STR/FAI paladin-ish build, around SL140)

Aava's really a lot simpler than the other DLC bosses. Doesn't have any fakeouts, doesn't delay attacks to screw you over, doesn't have friends along for the ride... Literally just dodge melee attacks, get away for the Wrath Of The Tiger blast and get behind her for her Homing Tiger Mass.
I mean, she has loads of damage, but apart from that, not really much to speak of, unless you're fighting her while she's still invisible. I did that once, it was horrifying.

invis Aava requires a pact with the devil. I've seen Distortion2 do it on his stream. he's a madman.
looking back, I think it's just four-legged bosses in general I'm not a fan of. RRA I despise. Sif I'm lukewarm towards. L+Z I prefer not to do if I don't need the Loyce GS for a build.
in terms of boss fights I tend to put off toward the end of a playthrough due to finding them irritating, I would rather fight Fume or Alonne than Aava. she's that annoying.

I don't really like Aava that much. Though I do like the atmosphere of the fight, the cat itself is just a pain in the ass with some really awful lingering hitboxes. Probably my least favorite non-optional DLC boss.
Shield gives you a margin of safety, especially at the start with the lower ADP. Explorer, though, is probably the best class for most builds (high ADP, low everything else). As a beginner, however, it's a bit weak right when you need help - at the start.
For me it's fighting Alonne I hate, as opposed to Fume or Aava. Both of those are relatively good fights, but Alonne's a POS scumlord of the highest order. Nothing else in the game irritates me as much as missing those telltale signs on his delays that I find so easy to read on all the other bosses. I don't know what it is, but I'm always just that fraction of a second off, I always get the opposite of whatever the hell he's doing. And then there's that run back, with all those scumlord weeb knights in their stupid pointless empty hallways as well.

Does anyone else have any problems with illusory walls in Scholar of the First Sin. Only some of them open for me. Most of them stay shut no matter what I do.
Yeah I have the same problem; the wall was clearly marked by an orange message but no matter how long I hacked at it and mashed buttons, it wouldn't open.
