Here's a little story for you all.
At Buckland Abbey in England, there is a drum emblazoned with Drakes coat of arms called, well...Drake's Drum. Drake took this drum with him on his voyages and as he lay on his deathbed in 1595 he ordered the drum returned to England. The legend goes that if Britain is ever in peril, then you should beat upon the drum and Drake shall rise from his grave to destroy Britain's enemies.
Supposedly the drum has been heard several times throughout history, including:
When Lord Admiral Nelso became a freeman of Plymouth
When Napolean was captured
When World War One broke out, followed by a victory roll on the day the German navy surrendered in 1918.
The drum was also reported to be heard during the evactuation of Dunkirk during 1940.
The legend also says that if the drum is removed from it's in the city of Plymouth, then the city shall fall. In 1938 the drum was moved to Buckfast abbey and Plymouth was devastated by the ensuing Nazi air raids. It was placed back at Buckland abbey.
