I just see it as "Paracelsus has very good intentions but he is willing to commit evil for the highest chance of the greater good" and that is Paracelsus's biggest flaw and he is self-aware that it is a flaw, yet commits the sunk cost fallacy. He's a very grey character but oh god, is he interesting.
