You know, never dwelled on it before, but Gil would have keep his word about leading the remnants of humanity if he had been successful with AM and it’d probably become an super amazing civilization in due time. He’d then have to take up the responsibility as King for real and be working himself to the bone again.

It'd be a pretty slow start since said civilization would have to rebuild itself in the magical equivalent of a nuclear wasteland. I don't think people would forgive him for a while.
The grail mud is a super concentrated cluster of enough magical energy to grant wishes though.
Though abandoned, forgotten, and scorned as out-of-date dolls, they continue to carry out their mission, unchanged from the time they were designed.
Machines do not lose their worth when a newer model appears.
Their worth (life) ends when humans can no longer bear that purity.
But the corrupted Grail's energy is basically magical nuclear fallout, especially the way Gil intends to uses it in UBW.
It's okay, GoB probably has an answer to that somehow.
