This is just a passing thought but maybe vampires who turned themselves with magecraft aren't qualified as such just for the bloodsucking but taking in the genetic information of others through their personalised methods to reconstruct their bodies. It could be through blood, the traditional method, or by eating people like Nrvnqsr or more pertinently Zouken. In other words it's not strictly some je ne sais quoi of vampiredom (perhaps the perversion/mutation of the soul of the victim of a vampire's bite) that makes what's labeled a vampire/Dead Apostlebl but the predatory reconstructive method of immortality they practice.

The DAA list is weird, positions are inherited or technically held for peculiar reasons; spider's "vampiric properties" are a product of eating a vampire and probably safe to say aren't related to reconstruction or immortality, while doge and CM straight up aren't Dead Apostles. I was thinking of the conflation of vampire-turned and magecraft-turned Dead Apostles and what the defining characteristic that identifies them both as DA is, and also cases of non-DA being called vampires.

It seems that only vampires that were once human, and can trace their lineage back to a True Ancestor, should be called DAs in a strict sense.

But even if you don't fit that definition, as long as you're affiliated to the DAs, or the Church sees you as one, you're pretty much a DA for all relevant purposes.
