The original VN is pretty clear that knowing Shirou finds her attractive and wants to have sex with her is a trigger for her being willing to resist Shinji.
Cutting out, and replacing it with other stuff, and the story still happens.
You can headcanon if you want to, it just means you're defending your personal fanfiction version of Sakura instead of the real deal.
The story "still happens", that doesn't mean it makes sense.
The original HF is canon (as far as I'm concerned, anyway), not RN.

Except that's not true.
Nasu took FSN and was forced to make cuts to it in order to fit Sony's rules. He didn't edit the story to actually make it make sense in the process (Sakura killing Shinji, for instance, was totally nonsensical in that version, as far as I can tell).
Also, the HF sex is instigated by Sakura, not Shirou. Him being "less horny" would not make the slightest bit of difference.
You can't tell, though, because you can't read Japanese and you don't even own RN. <_<

It's not even like the rape subplot is really gone. They just cut out all the explicit references and left heavy-handed implications in their place. I mean, really, how are you supposed to interpret stuff like "You're a Matou woman!", "Aren't you energetic today, Emiya must be depressed!", "You belong to me!", and "Just be quiet and submit!", all while he's approaching menacingly and reveling in his superiority complex and she's twisting her body away in defiance?
Because that's not how it happened with HF.
For Fate and UBW, it arguably is, which is why removing the first Saber sex scene and the Rin sex scene probably does actually improve the story. But HF has the sex much more built-in to the storyline (possibly because Nasu wrote HF later than the other two stories), and removing it doesn't make sense.

I'm still not convinced it works without him actually raping her like in HF.
