I would hardly call A Certain Magical Index (assuming that's what you're referring to) "obscure webnovel shit" though. Well, "shit" is subjective but the series is hardly obscure (at least in Japan). I mean, it got two seasons worth of anime, a whole bunch of spinoffs, a manga and even a movie!

You can debate the quality all you want (I tried reading part of the translated novel online once, and it hardly wowed me) but I wouldn't exactly call it "obscure".

plenty of communities have translators that translate just because they want to help the community. sub groups do their shit for free (with donations i guess) because they want to sub anime.

if you want money to translate, don't translate if people don't give you money, lol. i'm not suggesting anyone who can translate japanese must translate or else you're bad. i'm just saying, the community would be better if people who bitched about people spreading misinformation (and could actively prevent this) actually actively prevented that from happening...

i don't want people to think i'm being a dick and trying to "pressure" people into doing this shit. i'm just saying, like, what if, people actually tried to improve the community instead of bitching about how bad it was

Not that Index was "obscure webnovel shit" (he even admitted it was bigger then Fate) but that translations for Nasu works are on par quality-wise with aforementioned "obscure webnovel shit". but, to repeat myself, i'm just tired of people bitching at people who don't know better. the (english) type moon community is honestly just not very good for the size that it is. you have the part who only read the vn/watch the anime, and you have the part that are "superior" since they go to obscure forums like beast's lair and know the inner knowledge others don't know. the former has to rely on terrible resources since the latter doesn't care about the former. the questions doc is basically one of the sole resources that actually helps the community as a whole.

Keeping in mind that these kinds of gigs are irregular, it's not actually six figure income.
