In his profile it was mentioned that Berserker was an easy class for him to fit since he had multiple episodes of madness thus had some control. So it's not from one specific point in his life. Hell we know that because thanks to the modifications from Madness Enhancement has it saying he's looking more abnormal then when he was alive

Actually I prefer him wearing black, as in actual historical knights like the Hospitallers wore black possibly with the same reasoning for why priests and nuns wear black: it symbolizes humility.

I think it's not the aria itself, it's more a matter of they rigged the actual ritual in their favor since they hold the Lesser Key after all.
Just like how Matou Zouken can summon a Servant by being purely a contributor to the ritual.
But then again, as in Hollow, Apo and Strange Fake, it's on a case - to - case basis.
