you undershtand i am *sniff* alluding to nashu's crypto-reactionary ideological agenda in knk, and so on. you don't literally die from having premarital sex. merely to say that there is a commonality between knk and reagan-era horror films in how non-traditional sexuality 'exposes your life' (in the foucauldian sense) i.e. renders you eminently killable or an instance of 'improper life' held in a precarious limbo

Completely unfamiliar with Foucault except in the meme sense. But yeah, I was noticing in the lyrics of the ending themes of both movies that there seems to be this lyrical theme of, like, gradually evolving into a kind of peaceful love affair or something.

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners: The Quest for Uncomplicated Happy Vanilla Sex Within the Bonds of Marriage?
Imagine that the world is made out of love. Now imagine that it isn’t.

Imagine a story where everything goes wrong, where everyone has their back against the wall, where everyone is in pain and acting selfishly because if they don’t, they’ll die.
Imagine a story, not of good against evil, but of need against need against need, where everyone is at cross-purposes and everyone is to blame.

I'm going to find a way to destroy this meme at its root. Someone give me Mystic Eyes of Death Perception for this purpose.

It's actually a great meme though. among the many readings i can make of knk it's probably my favourite, purely because it annoys people

Any enjoyment which can be destroyed by s c a l d i n g takes and memes, deserves to be. I'm having buckets of fun tbh

    - - - Updated - - -

KnK 2025: Mikiya running for election in the local Diet seat on an ultranationalist ticket pushing for the repeal of article 9 & sovereignty over sakhalin and the kurils, backed by his wife and her family's far-right youth organisation. tensions with china escalate! violence in the streets! azaka has defected to north korea! it's all good

Pls dumb this down for me I've seen you make this claim before and I really can't tell where you're coming from at all.

take a look at knk and ask yourself: why is everyone who's not rich (or at least comfortably middle-class) a rapist, a drug dealer, or dead?

But surely that's a separate point from KNK narrative punishing/looking down on non-traditional relationships?

It is admittedly a fairly decent point to reading KNK tho. The only thing I would say is that I'm not sure KNK really has any place for a non-comfortable middle class family within its storytelling.

no, it is the same issue, or rather an aspect of the same. Shiki's internal crisis is ultimately resolved (ie at the end of 7 & implicitly thereafter) in the affirmation of an ordered sphere of haute-bourgeois domesticity and reproductive heterosexual relations within that sphere. everything else has to be abjected.

I'm sorry but this doesn't really explain your position to me? Like if you're trying to say that knk portrays some arguably reactionary views then I can see where you're coming from but to state that the work punishes non-traditional relationships just because the same groups that would try to push the former also wish the later feels unreasonable.

Its possibly I'm missing something in that jargony section tho

grossly simplifying - knk is a dichotomising process. everything is cut in half. mirror images abound. normal/abnormal. murder/slaughter. the issue which occupies most chapters of knk is reducible to one of the decision over improper life - that is, the decision over whether a given life is one whose destruction is meaningful, or not. the metric, as it were, which is used to make these decisions is a concept which is referred to as nichijou, the 'everyday', 'everyday life' or 'normal life'. a deficiency in a life's relation to the nichijou - through transgressing its norms, 'failing to protect' it, or what have you, tends to correlate with that life being decided as improper life. knk will very rarely state what the nichijou is or should be, but it makes its case all the same by process of elimination. in some cases physical elimination. the 'happy end' arrived at at the end of movie 7 is the outcome above all of a certain sequence of decisions over improper life through which a notion of 'proper life', i.e. life adequate to the nichijou, is circumscribed. what pulls shiki back from the brink of her self-evaluation as improper life after killing lio? affirmation of a certain sphere of ordered domesticity and heterosexual relations.

Maybe throw something in there about Shiki's issues stemming from her male personality dying

So I'm very likely missing something but you're basically saying that knk is a series that measures lives to see if they're improper and destroys those it considers as such and the thing that defines Shiki's life as not improper is her relationship with Mikiya?
