In other words, I'd be totally fine if a Tsuki anime played fast and loose with the story as long as it felt fresh and interesting.

    This^

Adapting Tsukihime straight-up presents too many problems on the series composition front alone. Routes are too incomplete by themselves and some aspects are too mutually exclusive to properly mix and match. I'd love it if it were told as a "Shiki route" where there is no main heroine. It could be seen as ripping off the way KnK presented the question of whether or not Ryougi was the murderer, but the payoff would be very different and it'd only mark the beginning of the story.

if they don't animate Shiki's impulses right he will just become generic edgy sick chuuni teenage.
ufo did rape already so it's no problemo. Just make it 8-9 parts movie and we go.

Shiki only rapes people in bad ends so I dunno why you'd adapt those.

I'd love this myself. Not that I can think of an existing example but I feel this might be the best way to go with adapting a multi-route VN. It's not a story where the romance is its strong draw in the first place so this is the sort of thing I'd wholeheartedly welcome assuming it ever happens.

As long as they keep the scene with Shiki and SHIKI drinking coffee together somehow.

Nah, the manga shows it can be done, and well.

A manga has much more time to work with than an anime does, spoony.

In Japan, the longer a franchise stays inactive the lesser the chances of it ever getting a comeback, and usually when they do the return is lame and bad as hell.

Tsuki is about 10 years now.

How long is inactive for Japan?

I would rather have another fighting game at this point. Or three I guess.

The manga (I was speaking specifically about film or TV, but manga applies to a lesser extent) is a great adaptation of the Arcueid route (probably my favorite iteration of it) with some extra content that makes for a nicer ebb and flow with other routes, but it still doesn't get into the far side in any meaningful way, because it's not part of its scope, but my point being that Tsukihime isn't just near side.

Most anime adaptations of VNs pick a specific route to adapt and stick with that (either that or try to cram all of them together like the DEEN anime did, which tends to make for a hot mess). No reason Tsuki would have to be different.

It seems to be more prevalent in Japan.

If Japan had had its own versions of Baywatch and Charlie's Angels decades ago, odds are they'd never bother to dust them off to make remakes.

Japan definitely remakes old classic franchises though. Look at Gatchaman Crowds and SSSS.Gridman for examples.

Japan absolutely doesn't have the worse of it. I won't touch on whether it could be considered good or bad, but US has a lot of reboots that are barely recognizable.

I don't think Gatchaman ever was gone for that long, I'm not counting franchises that are in semi-constant activity, like the Ninja Turtles would be in America. Didn't Gatchaman have new iterations in the nineties and early 2000s?
