Obviously one's work will never be as good as Eva, but hey, the tribute is still appreciated regardless by the high school-self of my past.

a whole generation - perhaps multiple generations - of otaku, producers and consumers alike, have been irretrievably traumatised by Eva to the point where they are compelled to repeat it/seek out its repetitions. why? maybe one day when rebuild 4 (or 3+1, or whatever it's called now) comes out the dialectic will finally move forward and we will be able to go beyond eva. but it seems unlikely. going beyond eva means going beyond the schizoid subjectivity of which it is an elaboration, allegory, and criticism - and lmao if you think that will happen any time soon

IMO, Nasu's storytelling has a sentimental/romantic outlook that's very pre-Eva.

He may borrow some stuff from Eva, but it's a superficial borrowing.

I mean, nobody is actually doing the "classic" Eva thing nowadays - not even Rebuild. Teenage angst paid off well in the mid-90s to early-00s; now it's boring and old.

Personally, I think the "age of Eva" ended roughly around the time Haruhi / Gurren-Lagann aired.

I hate these so much. There are multiple channels that does this "lore recap" stuff, and they always manage to be wrong on the simplest things somehow, and end up spreading even more misinformation.Not to mention, what is even going on with his inflection during the first couple of minutes? He sounds like that "foot lettuce" guy.
