Eh, my Chem textbooks haven't been nearly as heavy as my math or history ones. *shrugs*
As for where I got the idea...talking with a friend about HotD and them telling me to use a Dwebble->Crustle in Pokemon Black/White. After that, it's hard to explain.

It's was made quick, but I think this gives a basic idea of how character sheets will be done. Modifiers from skills may be more ellaborate and specific, but the general idea is here.

Also note that this is a really basic character. You can have better skills than this. :P

Name: Lisa Fair
Age: 18
Alignment: Good
Character Type: Magus

Brief History:
Lisa is the second born daughter of the Fair family of magi. As such, she was not chosen as the heir to her family’s techniques and secrets. Despite this, Lisa still felt that she was obligated to become stronger and represent the once proud name of the degrading Fairs. As such, while her older sister trained to be a proper magus, Lisa underwent special training in anti-magus combat and tactics.

Unfortunately, as fate would have it, Lisa’s sister would be mortally wounded in an accident during their early teenage years. Seeing that her sister wouldn’t make it, Lisa grieved near endlessly and begged her father to do something. But in the end all that he would do was “save the family’s lineage” by removing the family’s Magic Crest from Lisa’s dying sister and transplanting it onto her.

Since then, Lisa has doubled her efforts in representing her family’s name. In her training she has been commented on as having more potential than her sister and could possibly be recognized by the Association in the future. However, Lisa has shown no interest in hearing such things she longed for in her childhood.

Abilities:

Average One
Despite being born to a family of degrading magi, Lisa was born with the ability to use all five elements. Because of this she holds great magical potential and value as a magus.

Mixed Martial Arts
Due to her not originally being chosen as the Fair family heir, Lisa spent most of her childhood developing herself in the physical prowess of martial arts. Since her childhood, Lisa has studied numerous fighting styles including Boxing, Combat Sambo, Shotokan, and Aikido.

Military Training
To further aid her in anti-magus combat, Lisa’s father had her train in military techniques and tactics. Up until she was designated the family heir, Lisa was trained in virtually every situation imaginable and picked up a variety of skills which would help her survive in any setting.

Mystic Eyes of Silence
Lisa's psychic ability and the reason her father trained her in anti-magus combat. In a fashion similar to a hypnotic suggestion, Lisa's eyes reduce the effectiveness of spells by tricking the caster into "not giving their all". Usually this only results in not as much power being poured into the spell, but against weak targets, he can lead to the spell being messed up entirely. As visual light is the medium of the skill, eye contact is needed for any effect is to take place and it has no effect on the blind.

Again, it really depends on what all you're trying to do with a character, so I really can't put much of a set limit. Say someone makes a character with 5 really basic skills and someone else makes one with 5 really good skills. Not balanced, right? It's more of a question of versatility over expertise. For example, you could get away with 6-7 fairly basic skills like martial arts and sixth sense, while someone else may only be able to get away with 2 powerful skills like healing and UBW.

For now, I'll say no more than 10 skills at max. But really, I'll trust that you can use proper judgement in making a character.

As for your other question, no. The amount of the bonus is based on who your character is and how much they've invested in something. To illustrate, Kouma would have a higher bonus from a hybrid modifier than Akiha.

I know it sounds like a lot, but it's really just more work for me. :P
