Changing votes on polls. Doable?

Like in the wiki poll thread, people changed their mind, but the poll can't reflect that. Not a huge issue, but I was wondering if it was possible.

Changing vote counts, fully possible. Changing the actual votes in public polls, I don't think is possible, not without some sort of SQL fuckery anyway.

Obviously only mods and up should be able to change poll tallies for obvious reasons.

I'd be inclined to say only admins, honestly, although I guess I may be being a little over-cautious. Changing vote counts is something which should be done only very rarely, and only when it is explicitly announced that it will be done.

Which is pretty much the only reasons it would ever be done, yes.

Yeah, but how accountable is someone who changes a poll? Will anyone even know it has been changed?

I mean, allowing admins or mods to fiddle polls without anyone (even other mods...) being aware that they've done it is bad, for obvious reasons.

I dont even know how. I had some free time a while back and thought maybe I would go to the wiki thread and see if I could get a list of everyone who said there minds had changed and do some updating, but I didnt even know how or if it was even possible

Regardless, any mod action is logged in forum logs we have. I know of anything any mod does at any time. I can damn well find out if they've altered a poll or not.

Should be a pencil icon next to the poll question (like user profiles). If not, perhaps it's admin only.

It was a legitimate concern. It would be very easy for the mods to rig a poll if they were that way inclined, and I'm not willing to just trust that they won't if there isn't any oversight of that.

Well, I wouldn't have picked anyone who would rig a poll like that, and they know damn well they're not to edit votes without a good cause to. Again, just because they have the powers to skew polls doesn't necessarily mean that they will do so. (And if they intend to keep the spot, they'd better not be doing it period unless it's for legitimate reasons).

That said, yes, we can tell when they edit polls.

Also, keep in mind that mods have all sorts of new buttons and stuff in the regular forum interface that are really mistake prone! I've already accidentally re-named a thread, locked another one, and put some posts on inline moderation just because these things are too easy to click by accident. Luckily, all of those things were simple enough to fix with another click or two.

Of course, point still stands: it's very easy to accidentally mess with a thread/poll's state and all that, so don't get too worked up! If anything actually happens, DP and the other big Admin folks will know.

The option is there, but it should deny it due to the poll being closed. I could toggle it, but obviously, it wouldn't let you re-vote on a closed poll.

Yeah; I tried it out on the Wiki poll and again just now in the BL Banner poll. All it does is take away my vote; no voting again for me.

Can't really see it being a big issue, though. It'd be tough for someone to abuse that sort of thing.
