I always wondered just what were they thinking when they decided to summon Heracles as a 'Berserker' of all things. After all this is the guy who (supposedly) fulfilled the criteria for EVERY Servant class except Caster.
Seriously, they even went out of the way to summon him before the 5th HGW even started just to make sure they got him, and everyone knows that Archer's are alway's OP....

Well, for a start, they didn't have the metaknowledge that Archers are powerful. Secondly ...
Q. Why did the Einzbern summon Hercules as a Berserker? I'd think that in some other classes, he'd be able to have access to skills and Noble Phantasms that he had originally had....
Nasu: Simple answer is POWER. Mayhap the Einzbern, who had been up until now been betrayed again and again, felt it safer to have a "loyal dog that'd do only what they told it to do". The aspect of Hercules as a regular Heroic Spirit would have many advantages in his own right, but on the other hand, there's also the possibility of some cooperative friction occurring with the Master because the heroic part of him is a bit too strong. That kind of Master and Servant combo is pretty frequent in Fate/Zero...

If they wanted intelligence and loyalty, they should've summoned some famous hero known for loyalty or not really caring about honour or what his Master might get up to. Like Rostam, or maybe Achilles... though Achilles was a bit of a dick.

Y'know, I can't really think of a hero that fits Loyalty before all else at the moment.
Besides, I don't think the Einzberns wanted loyalty or the like. They wanted POWAH that was certain to give them a win. Kinda hard to disagree with that when monsters like Arturia, Gilgamesh, or Lancelot exist.
Hell, if Kariya wasn't such a shitty Master Lancelot would have won, loss of sanity be damned.

Wasn't Kariya a rubbish Master because because Zouken didn't think he'll amount to anything and simply married him off or something after barely teaching him anything about being a magus or something like that?
It would be kind of like Shirou ending up with Berserker Hercales, the servant would end up killing Master due to the Master's poor training and high prana drain of the Berserker class.

I think Five's not far off with Rostam. Otherwise you might have a look at Charlemagne's court, which did reasonably well on the whole fidelity issue.
And, yeah, the interview translation is a bit ambiguous. You can read 'power' as 'the power that a Berserker has, making him stronger' or 'the power of control a Master has over a Berserker's mind' or 'the decrease in power, which would make him easier to handle'.
She was meant to. I thought about adding more to the hassle that she was getting, but decided I'd done enough for the time being. Might bump it up if I ever come back to these.

Wasn't there something in the game or side information that revealed that Ilya was actually nerfing Hercales base stats, that she kept Mad Enhancement on because of the pain he causes her evry time he moved?

Not his actual stats; Mad Enhancement categorically improves those no matter what at his level.
The problem is that it keeps him from using some of his skills and Noble Phantasms.

She kept him insane but never let him have the benefits of Mad Enhancement, yes. With the exception of fighting against Saber in Fate in Einzbern Forest, I believe.
