I can't speak for anyone else, but it's one of my all time favourite Gundam stories.
I think what it comes down to is tbat it's not a simple copy 'n paste war story but focused instead on terrorism with both sides being incredibly morally gray to where the audience isn't sure who to root for. Throw in an incredibly gut wrenching ending (IBO eat yer heart out) and...
I will flat out say that it's Code Geass but done right IMO.

I will say that I hope any post-HF stories actually reference the giant cliffhanger in the epilogue, Tomino soft-rebooting the UC timeline with F91 kinda threw said cliffhanger until the bus for like 30 years. :/

some might have problem with UC super robot tier powerlevel (Gundam are supposed to be 'real' robot).
eh I have no problem with Newtypes/Innovator/Whatever power up
but I can't say I'm a big fan either
