Loni strikes me as the Rambal Rall of Unicorn. A one-off character who's given more depth than needed, because they couldn't bring in the main villain without making things even more complicated. And because of that development, you care for them way more than a one-off obstacle should warrant.

If memory serves, in the novels it went something like this:

Loni finds Banagher and nurses him back to health, they bond over the fact that they're similar - both children dragged into a war because of their fathers and both question the morality of what they've been doing. When the plan to destroy the town happens, Loni goes to stop her father from committing attrocities in the Shamblo, but he shoots her. Later Banagher is fighting the Shamblo but he's still lacking confidence based on previous events and is losing until he hears Loni's voice via Newtype powers and she convinces him he needs to fight and tells him the weakness of the Shamblo as she's dying. And then Banagher destroys the Shamblo before the Black Unicorn shows up.

Been years since I read the novels so I might've muddled a detail here or there.

Well I've never read the book at all, and I've been drinking quite a bit, so my recollections are probably worth a grain of salt.

That said, holy fuck are Marida and Bannager the OTP of this series. Again the not-a-Newtype are the Best Girl. Just like Zeta.

So I finished Unicorn. I'd rank it just below Thunderbolt on my list. I liked the Tunderbolt characters and story a lot more, but the fact that Unicorn is a finished narrative almost evens it out. Which puts it about on the level of Stardust Memories. Nice looking, great suit designs, but with some plot issues. Only instead of people getting the idiot ball like in Stardust, Unicorn has the prize in the treasure hunt be at the starting point all along.

8/10.

Next up is AGE, though I may take a few detours on the way, maybe check out Outlaw Star, Build Fighters, or Gundam-san to fill my bingeing times.

I'm not quite sure I understand the question, but if you mean to ask if he's always added into anime adaptations of pre-existing Gundam material, then no. To the best of my knowledge, if he hasn't been in the source material then he hasn't been in the adaptation - such as Thunderbolt.

Build Fighters on the other hand is an absolute gem that was far better then it had any right to be for such an obvious advert for Gunpla. <3

Oh, you meant his ethnicity. Well, that's a extremely vague thanks to the lack of discernible countries in the Universal Century.

All we know is that in the original, after landing on Earth and reaching North America, Amuro goes off to seek his home in British Columbia. Whereas in the Origin he does the same but his home is on the coast between California and Washington.

Which implies he was possibly meant to be either half Canadian/American depending on the version.

Basically, Bandai is releasing a brand new line of Gundam action figures in this new "Gundam Universe" series aimed at the west, wot with it being the more standard 6 inch figure size and being much more affordable than their previous Robot Spirits line.



Not my sort of thing personally, but it's still cool nonetheless.
