Really though, who was the last good female pilot on the protagonists side? Ple 12? Though she is his enemy for a good bit of Unicorn. None in AGE. None in 00. Cagali in SEED? She goes from resistance fighter to damsel in distress really fast. Turn A was mostly biplanes. Wing and After X were both all dudes. Victory had the Shrike Team who only got character the episode they died. 8th MS, I guess.

That list is more than a little suspect.

Just look at Meer's entry. That was a gimmick ZAKU that hung out with her at a concert. She never actually piloted it.

Cima wasn't on the protagonist's side.

And Yurin wasn't really piloting that suit. She was just a living part that someone else was puppeteering to give her suit a little extra X-Rounder oomph.

I wouldn't even call some of those ladies good pilots. Fa, Chan, Sochie, Rain, Lunamaria, Nena -- you kidding, mate?

TL;DR somebody asked "what if we made a Gundam fly?" and so they built a ginormous anti-gravity backpack and slapped it on an otherwise ordinary Gundam.

Seriously, this is how plain it looks without the backpack on. :O

Sure its still mostly base Gundamu but it has its own "look/style/presence".

It's interesting that they're really pushing the Mobile Suit that belongs to the main antagonist in the story through merch and it was in the teaser trailer even.

But then I presume that's because Hathaway's own Gundam might not even be in the first film depending on how they divide the story. Who knows.

From what little details I know of it, it sounds more like they're just rebooting F90 itself really, though I could be wrong.

I'd be totally down for them redoing F91 itself while they're at it as well.

As one of maybe five people who enjoyed G-Reco, I'm over the moon to see this finally materializing. I thought it would be one of those announced-but-never-produced Gundam projects like the SEED movie.

G-Reco alternated between feeling entirely too long and too rushed with sequences like everyone collecting space debris near Towasanga. Forcing Tomino to take the knife to the series might make for a superior product. The original 0079 movies did a great job of cleaning up the clutter. Here's hoping it's more '79 than the Zeta trilogy.
