    Well, volvidon itself is weaker than the other 5-star monsters, so...

    But whatever, man. I've been using lagombi until I got lagombi+, and the def score isn't that important. What is important is the golden rule:

    Don't get hit
    hit it until it dies

    Also all the bears have good armor. Arzuros is good for beginning players, lagombi is awesome if you have the might pills(and I like it for DS, for the extended demon dodge) and Volvidon is good no matter what you're using.

    The deep sadness of knowing that I'm not likely to get this game let alone play it until everyone has moved on to MH4 or whatever sequel follows it.
    It is painful.

    Just beat the single player (high rank). And holy shit, that ending cinematic.

    The entire singleplayer was worth it just for that cinematic. Extra worth it if you played as much tri as I did.

    I won't spoil anything but fuck man. That cinematic.

    Anywho, Lagombi armor just went from "cute and effective" to "Holy shit this is amazing". Might pills and adamant pills were one thing, but...

    when you press R(on 3ds) while your Dual Swords (DS) are unsheathed, you go demon mode and flip the fuck out. You have a slightly different moveset and you get a sick dodge which is 100% invincibility frames.

    The downside is that it constantly drains your stamina.

    You have a meter in this state that fills up the more you whack stuff, and once completely full you go uberdemon mode, something which, if my memory and /mhg/ is to be trusted, used to be called demon dancing. Once it's full, your attack speed goes up, your damage goes up and even when not being a demon you still have the sick dodge and some slightly altered moves. This upgrade endures until you exit demon mode and the bar empties(dodging the special dodge makes it go down faster) or you get carted.

    What I was doing was using Mega Dash Juice to have undrainable stamina, making my demon mode unlimited until I ended it myself/got hit. Since I was always in demon mode and whacking I. Lagi, the bar NEVER went down past a certain point, keeping me uberdemoned the entire time.

    And with Item use up, the mega dash juice lasted me until after he changed areas.

    The might pill was just for a little extra damage. With 50% affinity(Barioth DS + critical eye +3), every bit counts.

    And that's how I beat the singleplayer boss in ten or so minutes on my first try.

    Just got to goldbeard ceadeus, the gateway into G-rank, and I haven't been hit this hard since... well, since I took unupgraded jaggi armor to face rathalos in tri and got fireballed.

    This is the first monster I haven't beaten on my first try. I've met my wall.

    Time to break out the brachydios armor+Dual swords. Let's do this.
